Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Build 22000.588 (KB5011563) to Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channels.

This update includes the following improvements:
  • New! We displayed up to three high priority toast notifications simultaneously. This feature is for apps that send notifications for calls, reminders, or alarms using Windows notifications in the OS. As a result, up to four toast notifications might appear simultaneously–three high priority notifications and one normal priority notification.
  • We fixed an issue that turns off auto-startup for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps after you upgrade the OS.
  • We fixed an issue that causes SystemSettings.exe to stop working.
  • We fixed an issue that affects searchindexer.exe and prevents Microsoft Outlook’s offline search from returning recent emails.
  • We fixed an issue that increases the startup time for Windows. This issue occurs because a UI thread in a networking API stops responding when a 5G wireless wide area network (WWAN) device is slow to wake up.
  • We fixed a memory leak in the wmipicmp.dll module that causes a lot of false alarms in the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) datacenter monitoring system.
  • We fixed an issue that incorrectly returns the Execution Policy settings from the registry.
  • We fixed an issue in which modern browsers fail to correctly render HTML that is generated by gpresult/h.
  • We fixed an issue that causes an “Access denied” exception for a file during a PowerShell test for AppLocker.
  • We fixed an issue that causes the Remote Desktop Service (RDS)server to become unstable when the number of signed in users exceeds 100. This prevents you from accessing published applications using RDS on Windows Server 2019.
  • We fixed an issue that returns an error message when you browse for a domain or organizational unit (OU). This issue occurs because of improper zeroing out of memory.
  • We fixed an issue that causes the Group Policy Management Console to stop working after you close it. The system logs Application Error Event ID 1000 and the error, 0xc0000005 (STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION); the failing module is GPOAdmin.dll.
  • We fixed an issue that might cause the Group Policy Service to stop processing telemetry information for Group Policy Registry Preferences.
  • We fixed a stop error (0xD1, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) in the DirectX kernel component.
  • We fixed an issue that might cause Kerberos.dll to stop working within the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS). This occurs when LSASS processes simultaneous Service for User (S4U) user-to-user (U2U) requests for the same client user.
  • We fixed an issue that affects the Key Distribution Center (KDC) Proxy. The KDC Proxy cannot properly obtain Kerberos tickets for signing in to Key Trust Windows Hello for Business.
  • We added support for Microsoft Account (MSA) Pass-through scenarios in Azure Active Directory(AAD) Web Account Manager (WAM).
  • We fixed an issue that logs Event ID 37 during certain password change scenarios, including failover cluster name object (CNO) or virtual computer object (VCO) password changes.
  • We fixed an issue that prevents the User Account Control (UAC) dialog from correctly showing the application that is requesting elevated privileges.
  • We fixed an issue that might cause a Microsoft OneDrive file to lose focus after you rename it and press the Enter key.
  • We returned the corresponding Settings page when you search for the word widgets.
  • We fixed an issue that prevents Event 4739 from displaying the new values of certain attributes after a policy change.
  • We fixed an issue that causes the Move-ADObject command to fail when you move computer accounts across domains. The error message is, “Multiple values were specified for an attribute that can have only one value”.
  • We fixed an issue that prevents you from accessing Server Message Block (SMB) shares using an IP Address when SMB hardening is enabled.
  • We fixed an issue that causes stop error 0x1E in the SMB Server (srv2.sys).
  • We fixed an issue that causes a mismatch between NetBIOS and DNS Active Directory domain names when you create a cluster.

I went to update to this version via Windows Update and upon reboot I got a BSOD (green) saying it couldn’t find my boot device or something like that, don’t remember… I couldn’t boot into Macrium either, so I had to factory reinstall Win10, it forced upgrade to Win11 (couldn’t stop it)… download Macrium and finally was able to get to my backup… it’s now on 5% and taking its sweet time. I’ve been at this for just shy of three hours already.

QUESTION:

If Microsoft knows so many problems exist in Windows-11, and has "fixes" for them, why put those fixes in the BETA version of Win-1ll? Why not make the Release/Stable version of Windows-11 sport these fixes also?

I thought by being in the BETA channel, I would get mostly NEW items, like we get in the EDGE insider channel.

Maybe I should change to the DEVELOPER channel for Windows-11, like I am with EDGE, in order to get enhancement and new features? Does Windows-11 Developer Channel get new enhancements and features, and is it relatively stable?? If so, I'll switch from Beta to Developer right now.

Yes it does, but MS specifically say the Dev channel is experimental: "The Dev Channel receives builds that represent long lead work from our engineers with features and experiences that may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. ... features included may change over time, be removed, or replaced in Insider builds or may never be released beyond Windows Insiders to general customers".

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Apparently, they haven't fixed the issue that prints, "We fixed an issue that", repeatedly, a disturbingly needlessly high number of times, in a single document. 🤷‍♂️

Why don't you read about it and make your own mind up? It's widely known that DEV is the EXPERIMENTAL branch of Windows with any features not guaranteed to make it to release and has an expiration date. The fixes are put into BETA/RP whereas DEV is for MS to try stuff before deciding whether to release said features to BETA/RP.

As said you kinda need to read up on what the different insider channels mean. If you are frustrated with being on BETA, switch to DEV but be prepared for a whole new level of frustration on some builds. DEV is a testing platform and nothing more, it's not there for getting the latest and greatest, unless you're really into emojis that is

I've had Event viewer problems since yesterday on two PCs, see this post Unexplained problem!

It's not to do with the update as the problems started before then, it seems to be linked to the Ant-Malware update yesterday.

As now all back to normal, It looks like the Defender definition update(s) rather than the platform update as that's the only thing that has changed.
It also happened on my Win10 PCs, all had the Platform update 4.18.2202.4 on the 15th plus same definition 1.361.36.0. After today's definition update 1.361.81.0 all seems to be back to normal on all PCs, both 10 and 11.
Wild guess that if it wasn't the platform update, MS released definition updates for the previous platform in error?

My first thought was the AMD chipset update, however as two of the affected PCs were Intel, I ruled that out.

Wild guess that if it wasn't the platform update, MS released definition updates for the previous platform in error?

My first thought was the AMD chipset update, however as two of the affected PCs were Intel, I ruled that out.

Not fixed for me, I have the 1.361.81.0 definition updates but still can't open Event viewer or Perfmon after a reboot. IN fact I have 1.161.89.0 now

When you get that just set bios to defaults... Windows messes with the EFI boot

Anyway had a look for the cab on UUP (I'm not on Insider) - couldn't find it - but no worries if you have an issue with this update , I'll pass.

Thankyou for patiently explaining that problems with the Windows-11 Developer channel are more risky than problems that occur in the Developer Channel of the Edge browser.

When I have a problem with Edge Developer version, it's not a big deal. But the weekly updates bring enhancements to the feature set. It never crashes on me.

I'll read up some more on experiences people are having with Windows-11 Developer version. Crashes of the O.S. that you speak of, sound very unpleasant.

My "frustration" with Beta is derived from Windows-11 Beta not seeming to be any more "advanced" (with new features under the hood) than the Release Version of Windows-11 that's on my wife's computer. I keep hers up-to-date and cleaned up (ccleaner, driver updates, etc.), and see no difference between her Win-11 and my Beta Win-11.

My only concern regarding switching to Windows-11 Developer channel, is what Microsoft says about converting back to Beta or Release. That a "clean install" would be needed. I use Macrium Reflect to image my drive occasionally, but have never had to use it to do a "clean reinstall".

Thankyou for the feedback. Time to go do a little more reading up on people's experiences. Their experiences/opinions mean 1000 times more to me than the corporate explanations. This forum is/has been awesome in that regard. :clap:
