Insider KB5014688 Windows 11 Insider Release Preview Build 22621.105 22H2 - June 14

  • Staff
UPDATE 6/30:

Hello Windows Insiders!

Today we are making Windows 11, version 22H2 Build 22621 available in the Release Preview Channel for Windows Insider Program for Business participants to validate on devices in their organizations.

Commercial devices* configured for the Release Preview Channel via the Windows Insider Program Settings page or via Windows Update for Business policy, whether through Microsoft Intune or through Group Policy, will automatically be offered Windows 11, version 22H2 as an optional update provided that the device(s) meet the hardware requirements. Windows 11, version 22H2 is also now available via Windows Server Update Service and Azure Marketplace. You can learn more about deploying and validating this upcoming version of Windows 11 here. Should any issues arise, IT admins in these organizations can request free Microsoft Support. This support offer is intended to help resolve issues with commercial-specific scenarios and is limited to the Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

*Note: We consider a device a commercial device if it is not running the Windows 11 Home edition AND is being managed by an IT administrator (whether via Microsoft Endpoint Manager or other management solution) or has a volume license key or commercial ID or is joined to a domain.

We are also making this build available to any Windows Insider in the Release Preview Channel via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update. This means Insiders currently in the Release Preview Channel that meet the Windows 11 hardware requirements can go to Settings and Windows Update and choose to download and install Windows 11, version 22H2 Build 22621 if they want. Once an Insider updates their PC to Windows 11, version 22H2, they will continue to automatically receive new servicing updates through Windows Update (the typical monthly update process). For instructions on how to join the Windows Insider Program and join your PC to the Release Preview Channel, click here.

Thanks,
Brandon and Aria

I find this amusing as it is circular logic.
"Amusing and circular logic" -- why do you have to be insulting?

I have done Repair-Installs time after time over the years, with the intent of reducing Windows space usage, and that has always worked well for me. In this case, Windows space usage had grown to over 50GB (on a 64GB partition), and after I ran this, it was down to 41GB.

I found that neither amusing nor a logical fallacy.

The problem started with this Build 22621.105 as well as 22000.739, 22000.776, 25140.1000 and 19044.1766.
All the builds that had CU updates released after 6/13/2022 have this problem. The only build without this bug is is 22621.160, at list for now they did not screw that up.
Older builds do not have this issue.

You beat me to it. I thought I was the only one with this problem.
Someone should report it to Microsoft.

If you are insulted by that, you are easily offended.

I certainly meant no insult and I apologise accordingly.

@asturias7,
Already reported, you can upvote the FBH report.
That will help getting more attention. It fails on all the builds recently updated except for 22621.160 which CU update was prepared before June 11/2022.

How to over think an issue!

So, I had an issue with this build as it would not enable my camera, and I checked settings, drivers, privacy, did a repair upgrade, checked registry, scannow etc. etc.

Other builds happily showed camera.

I came to the conclusion it was a bug in RP 22H2 22621.105 (.160 Beta, RTM, RP 21H2, RTM all worked fine).

So I was running RTM, and went to do a screen lock (F9) on my laptop, but hit F10 and up popped "Camera Disabled" pop up screen.
Pressed it again and camera was renabled.

I groaned and thought surely not!

Rebooted in to RP 22H2, pressed F10 - boom - camera enabled.

Classic example of overthinking when the solution was staring me in the face - even a nice symbol on F10 showing camera with line through it - LOL!

I've never reported a single thing to MS... for one, they won't listen to one single person's report/complaint.
you said why doesn't somebody report it - that is still one person.

The more who report an issue, the more chance it will get addressed.

In the end, you are just being lazy.

It reduced the space "used" -- but I have no idea how it did that.

I did not remove apps or personal files.

It's well-known that Windows gets bloated over time. I just presume that the Repair-Install removes some or all of this bloat.

But .... in all honesty, that does not always work. I ran this on 4 PCs and while space got cut on three of them, on one, the space used actually grew. So, on that one, I restored it using an image file I had made the day before.

I have a new computer that meets all win 11 standards. In setting it up and downloading updates, I applied kb5014688. It shows it was installed but does not reflect that when I check winver. And none of features of that build show up. Any ideas?

Well that's why, you're on 21H2 and KB5014688 is for 22H2, build 22621.

That should not have been allowed to happen. KB5014688 is not applicable for your 22000 build.

For the 22000.776 build it's KB5014668

Well that's why, you're on 21H2 and KB5014688 is for 22H2, build 22621.

That should not have been allowed to happen. KB5014688 is not applicable for your 22000 build.
On my other computer, it updated to 22h2 with this build so and it states it was taking RP to 22h2 from 21h2.

For the 22000.776 build it's KB5014668

Ahh. You are correct. My old vision failed to see that I had installed 668, not 688. Thank you. But why am I not being offered the 688 when my hardware meets all standards for Win 11.

You have to be offered the upgrade to 22H2 first. Seems that not every machine running 21H2 in the Release Preview channel is being offered it yet. I have a VM in the RP channel that doesn't see 22H2 offered in Windows Update, despite being fully compatible. It's currently stuck on 21H2 RP.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
