Insider KB5014770 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.160 - June 13

  • Staff
Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.160 (KB5014770) to the Beta Channel.

What’s new

File Explorer Tabs & Navigation Updates

To help you work across multiple locations at the same time, the title bar of File Explorer now has tabs. We’d love your feedback on which tabs features you’d like to see next.

File Explorer with tabs and navigation updates.
File Explorer with tabs and navigation updates.

File Explorer is also introducing a refreshed layout of the left navigation pane which makes it easy for you to navigate to folders that matter to you. The updated organization provides easy access to your pinned and frequently used folders (Quick access) and your OneDrive cloud profiles added to Windows. OneDrive cloud profiles reflect the user’s name associated with the account. Known Windows folders which are available by default in the navigation pane are no longer displayed under This PC to keep that view focused for your PC’s drives. When you navigate to folders syncing to OneDrive such as Documents, Pictures, etc., the address bar displays the correct path to help bring clarity when your folders are on the cloud vs when they are local to you.

[We are beginning to roll this feature out, so it isn’t available to all Insiders in the Beta Channel just yet as we plan to monitor feedback and see how it lands before pushing it out to everyone.]

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Files, Folders, and Online Storage > File Explorer.

Known issues

[File Explorer]

  • The up arrow is misaligned in File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post from last month that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon

So it is not possible to go from .105 to .160 without changing channels.
You can change channels or use the MS iso. My desktop and laptop both went from .105 to .160. :giggle:

can anyone explain what is the new navigation panel on .160 that many are discussing here & that's probably causing the crash of the new TAB feature configured via vivetool?
The navigation pane has been reorganised and new groupings are now separated by a horizontal line. I have 22621 in a Hyper-V VM, so I can easily apply a checkpoint to go back to the same build but before tabs were enabled.

And no, vivetool is not causing the crash. My tabbed explorer got enabled by Microsoft and ever since then it has crashed. Opening three or more tabs then closing explorer seems to reliably generate a crash.

@Bree,
Crashes also with 25140.1000.
Also hangs as not responding when mounting an ISO file with double click. I.E. officiial MS ISO 25140
It fails even quicker when both Tabs and Navigation updates are enabled.

Interesting, I am on .160 and I do not have those grouping lines, in either light mode or dark mode (and thankfully! They're hideous!)

I am on .160 too. One day I didn't have them the next day I did. Seems MS are A/B testing this an only enabling the new explorer layout and tabs on some PCs.

@Bree,
Same here on .160, first day nothing, next day both Tabs and Navigation updates.
On 25140.1000 only Tabs the 1st day.
A/B testing is just a messy confusion, inconsistent behavior on differentt machines. They should do all insider machines at the same time to get a reliable feedback from everybody, not just selected users. 😎

thanks for the explanation, although I didn't see much of a diff in between those two nav pans, & those lines are not symmetrical anyway, not sure what MSFT wants to change here, the only interesting feature is the TAB, which is crashing for almost everyone. Let's see how it rolls out to the other users widely with fixes via LCU.

My navigation pane has One Drive as the main layout then Quick Access then PC.

I also have a nagging problem where I set 2 different images (one for each screen). When I boot, I use Veracrypt and my drive will load on logon. Problem is Before I log to Veracrypt drive I will have only one image for both monitors, then on Veracrypt logon main screen will switch to image.

And, I still lose my One drive access if I update or upgrade.

Another Notepad problem common to Builds 22621 and 25140.
Black writing on Dark titlebar is hard or almost impossible to read.

Even after disabling driver updates on .160 I received this install notice today as once again WU attempts to replace my amd adrenaline driver.

Just noticed today with this build displaying the weather on the lock screen works again when choosing an app to show detailed status on the lock screen. Haven't had that option work since early Win 10.

Dark mode is a different behavior.
Try light mode with dark accent color. 😎
