On the fence about this update, at least until they release notes on what it is.
On 22621.169 and it's been pretty stable with one occasional issue where the PC will black screen and keyboard and mouse are non-functional (even the RGB backlighting on the keyboard/mouse stops working - different mouse brand than keyboard so not blaming the software for those).

I was expecting to receive this Release update since recently changing from the Beta to Release Channel as noted here: Leaving the Insider Program After Activating Win 11 Pro

My installed build displays as 22621.290 ni_release (different from the Release build note elsewhere on this thread as
22621.232). My Insider settings is set at Release Preview.

I found these 2 statements on the Insider website: "Note: If you install an Insider Preview build in one channel, and you want to switch to a different channel, you might need to do a clean install of Windows and reset your Windows Insider settings on that device."

"(If your device is currently running a public release of Windows, this will immediately opt you out of getting preview builds. Just restart your device to complete the process.)"

Given the last statement, I assumed that when I Activated my Win 11 Pro for ~$200.00 that I would automatically be opted out of all preview builds and removed from the Insider Program.

Any suggestions?

The licence for Windows is independent of Insider version.

You have to wait until RTM version is released to leave withhout doing a clean install.

Can you even do that? I seem to recall something about not being able to switch channels once they builds separated, but that might have been just for switching between beta and dev channels. The release channel is on a build below the beta channel. They're on 22000 while beta is on 22622.

But I'm not sure. I'm certain someone will chime in and make a correction.

Switching between Beta and Release Channels should be straightforward. Everything displays on the Insider settings section that I am now on the Release Channel but my build is still Beta

From the Insider website:

Switching between channels

If you've installed an Insider Preview build in the Beta Channel or Release Preview Channel, switching between channels is easy. But if you've installed a build in the Dev Channel, because it's not tied to a specific release, it will depend on your current build and the current flighting build in the channel you want to switch to, as to what steps you will need to perform.

Switching from the Beta Channel or Release Preview Channel

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program.
  2. Under Pick your Insider settings, select your current channel to open all the channel options.
  3. Choose the radio button beside the channel you'd like to switch to. Your Settings will update to your new channel.
  4. The next time you receive an update, it will be for your new channel.

I successfully switched but and did not receive the update for my new Release channel.

I might try that later although I will opt-out anyway in Sept/October. I have had no major issues with Beta so I will likely continue with that channel until then. I just do not understand why my channel switch did not occur.

Same problem here. It appears to download, then the install goes 25% >45% >100%. Restarts, the update tries to install but fails, then rolls back. The error in the Windows update is the same code as yours after restarting. I had to use the UUP Dump ISO to get to build 22621.232.

@IanMosley also had a problem so it's not just my PC, looks like a few affected now. Wonder if there's a common thing between the PCs.

Also this post KB5015814 Installation Problems - same error on a different CU and a different version of Windows 🤔

It looks as though there is a fix on the way for 22H2 from MS -
New Update is not getting installed I don't understand why this error is getting ....tried multiple remedies and hacks but the same error is getting showed

Install error - 0x800f081f
