Insider KB5017384 Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.601 and 22622.601 - Sept. 21

  • Staff
UPDATE 9/29:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.601 and Build 22622.601 (KB5017384) to the Beta Channel.
  • Build 22622.601 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.601 = New features off by default.

KB5015669 Enablement Package for Windows 11 22H2 build 22622.xxx

As a reminder, Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22622.xxx).

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.601 & Build 22622.601

  • We fixed the issue where clicking the network icon on the Lock screen would not work and would crash the Lock screen.
  • We updated the start date for daylight saving time in Chile. It will start on September 11, 2022 instead of on September 4, 2022.
  • We reduced the power that the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol uses on some devices when they are in Sleep mode.
  • We fixed an issue that affects Dual SIM calling. If you select no SIM on your phone and initiate a call on your device, Dual SIM functionality does not work.

Known issues

[General]

  • We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

Once again since not offered via Insider through WU, I downloaded via UUP. As soon as installed then WU does a quick download and install of this build. GO FIGURE! What's up with that?

It does did that to me too (in the past)! And sometimes it keeps installing again and again on every update check until it figures out that it is not needed.

Didn't show for me either -- so I used W10UI to apply the updates manually. Have had to do that for the last three update rounds.
I got the ISO onto a USB and it boots but then it says I can't do the upgrade because it's not included in the distribution.
How the @#!$% do you get this to work?
(I downloaded the UUP and created the ISO and used Rufus to make it a bootable USB).

I burn 2022 Update onto DVD5 and make clean install.

This week Windows updated to v22H2 OS Build 22622.601. I have opted to stop getting preview builds. Is v22H2 OS Build 22622.601 the final release? I read somewhere that would happen soon.

Good question that has left some of us "fuming".

Well, as far as we can tell, nobody has managed to leave the Insider Programme if on RP 22621.521 which just updated to 22621.607.
In fact RP has hopped over Beta at 22621.601.

The realease build is 22621.382 if you clean install it but that updates to 22621.521 from windows update.

As far as we can tell stopping preview builds is not working. Welcome to Virtual Hotel California.

It certainly looks like MS have dropped a major clanger!

I do have FlightSettingsMaxPauseDays in regedit (shown below). It would seem that would stop future beta updates, but my goal is to return to basic Windows 11 mode.

Would deleting that dword do that or just freeze future beta updates?

That setting looks to be the normal delay for getting updates.
Has nothing to do with beta.

Post #73 referenced above will set the system back to "Non-Insider", i.e. RTM daily normal build. I put it that way because it does not, will not, cannot, undo all the MS embedded telemetry tweaks and other settings. It's basically a "fake-out". It is best, and recommended by MS to do a clean install.

Not sure if pausing indefinite beta updates would help. Clean install is a lot of work but probably needed and correct solution. I have some odd beta quirks that updates haven't fixed.

I deleted my post to avoid confusion. Thanks.

Not sure if pausing indefinite beta updates would help. Clean install is a lot of work but probably needed and correct solution. I have some odd beta quirks that updates haven't fixed.

I deleted my post to avoid confusion. Thanks.
Yes, I wouldn't want to do a clean install, either, as it would take me several days of dedicated re-installing ~8TBs of programs and saves, which I'm not inclined to do. Weeks, probably.

Couple of things:

1) When you hit "Pause Updates" as illustrated in the post above, encircled in yellow, You can hit that button indefinitely, if you like--I discovered a nice feature of doing it that way is the fact that if you forget to hit the Pause button and a new update begins downloading or installing--you can still hit the Pause button, and the current install will abort, nice and neat, and system will pause for another week. That way, should you change your mind and decide you want to try another update on down the line, then just accept the next update without pausing it, and you will be there. Then pause if you want, etc.

Also, since 22622.575, or so, maybe earlier, all the build updates since have consisted of Cumulative Updates, which you can manually uninstall, to drop back to the previous builds, etc. Takes ~5 minutes or less to uninstall the Cumulative Updates to revert to a previous build. I did it several times. You can drop back and then hit the Pause button, etc.

2) What I have done to protect myself against needing to do clean installs and the like is to reduce my C:\ partition to ~225GBs, containing only Windows, device drivers, and utilities--leaving me at least 60 GBs free. When I update to a new build, I run Macrium reflect to back up the build C:\ partition. That way, I can store at least three build backups in the space I have allotted for them. I even have my pre-Win11, Win10 21390 build C:\ partition backed up in another spot--in case I want to go back to the last Win10 build and start all over with a different channel in Win11. Even if I go all the way back to the last Win10 Insider's build, I will have to reinstall the stuff I have installed since (in the last year), but that is nowhere close to the reinstalling labor it would take to rebuild everything I now have installed.

Just thought I'd mention it...Luck to you!

Great advice, thanks. I don't have 8TB of software to reinstall but enough to keep me busy for a day or two!

I'm not sure when but I'll probably do a clean install in the near future. When I upgraded to Win 11, I installed over Win 10 & that must have caused a few gremlins somehow. They're minor quirks but I haven't been able to how to fix them. I wish MS had fixed "opted to stop getting preview builds".

Hi there
another way is to have separate windows installs as vhdx files (even external disks) - then if your update doesn't go as planned just flip the boot order in the Windows standard boot menu and do what you want with the other windows system - even clean install. For these things messing around with Macrium etc is a pain. It's much easier to boot Windows !!!!

For example : Windows 10, Windows 11(Insider builds) Windows PE, W11 Icelandic, W11 English
