  • Build 22623.875 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.875 = New features off by default.

KB5018863 Enablement Package for Windows 11 22H2 build 22623.xxx


REMINDER: Insiders who were previously on Build 22622 will automatically get moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. The enablement package artificially increments the build number for the update with new features getting rolled out and turned on to make it easier to differentiate from devices with the update with features off by default. This approach is being used for the Beta Channel only and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts.

Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22623.xxx).

Changes and Improvements in Build 22623.875​

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]​

  • Tablet-optimized taskbar which began rolling out with Build 22623.730 is now available to all Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. The System Tray improvements that began rolling out with Build 22623.746 that include drag and drop is still rolling out so not all Insiders in the Beta Channel will see this right away.

Fixes in Build 22623.875​

[Taskbar]​

  • You can now swipe up from within the taskbar with a pen to expand the tablet-optimized taskbar.

[System Tray Updates]​

NOTE: These fixes for System Tray are still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.
  • The show hidden icons panel in the system tray should no longer block context menus opened after it.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.875 & Build 22623.875​

  • New! We enhanced the backup experience when using your Microsoft Account (MSA). Some devices might notice visual treatments for this enhancement. This is available to a small audience initially and deploys more broadly in the months that follow.
  • We fixed an issue that might affect some types of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) connections. These connections might have handshake failures. For developers, the affected connections are likely to send multiple frames followed by a partial frame with a size of less than 5 bytes within a single input buffer. If the connection fails, your app will receive the error, “SEC_E_ILLEGAL_MESSAGE”.
  • We stopped the start of daylight saving time in Jordan at the end of October 2022. The Jordan time zone will permanently shift to the UTC + 3 time zone.
  • We fixed an issue that affects transparency in layered windows. This occurs when you are in High-Definition remote applications integrated locally (RAIL) mode.

Known issues​

[General]​

  • We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]​

  • The taskbar sometimes flashes when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • The taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • When using the bottom right edge gesture to see Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays stuck in the expanded state, instead of dismissing to collapsed state.

About the Beta Channel​

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

On my desktop the taskbar stays up on my primary monitor but hides itself on the 2nd monitor.

Edit: I rebooted and the taskbar returned to normal.

Crazy temp way to do: Put them all in the overflow ^ thing, then drag them back one at at time starting with the rightmost first and move left.

My primary screen taskbar is stuck in the up position again and I can't move those icons anywhere. I've found that after a reboot the taskbar behaves fine then once I launch a game, I played world of warships, then the taskbar becomes stuck in the up position on my primary monitor.

Doesn't work. Trying to drag one anywhere, to the overflow ^ icon or another position, shows a 'not allowed' sign. Here I'm trying to drag Windows Security,

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

I am able to rearrange my taskbar icons on both my beta systems. I don't know what others are experiencing - I also added an icon for camera and then rearranged it to a different position. No problems??????

Are you talking about your Taskbar icons or System Tray icons? The taskbar icons are fine, it's the System Tray icons that cannot be rearranged.

It's the ones in the Systray that won't move, not a problem for me as only have two in addition to Network and Volume the rest are in the overflow and I rarely use them.

Well the task bar for me is like floating above the bottom of my screen with a gap, and the systray icons were a mess. I can't wait till this build goes final, I am totally done with any type of Insider builds. This can be fixed by using Open Shell but I will not do that.

I am able to move both systray and taskbar icons without problem. EDIT: on one system, I can move the System Tray Icons. On the other, they are locked. Guess this is another case of A/B testing?

Indeed. I have reported to MS that it is having Dolby decoder switched on that causes me to lose audio on a restart. Either I have to have it switched off, or I just switch it it off and on after a restart.

Thanks for clearing that up. So some can rearrange their system tray? Well I certainly can't. I can click and drag them all right, I just can't drop them anywhere - there's a 'forbidden' symbol 🚫 that accompanies them wherever I drag them.

After rolling back my taskbar is still broken and stays up on the primary monitor plus my systray icons won't allow me to move them around.

Yes, Bree, I get that on one system. System tray is blocked with the symbol above. But on other system, I can move the System Tray Icons freely. So, I assume A/B testing.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 4GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds as a native boot .vhdx.
