KB5018863 Enablement Package for Windows 11 22H2 build 22623.xxx


REMINDER: Insiders who were previously on Build 22622 will automatically get moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. The enablement package artificially increments the build number for the update with new features getting rolled out and turned on to make it easier to differentiate from devices with the update with features off by default. This approach is being used for the Beta Channel only and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts.

Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22623.xxx).

Fixes in Build 22623.875​

[Taskbar]​

  • You can now swipe up from within the taskbar with a pen to expand the tablet-optimized taskbar.

[System Tray Updates]​

NOTE: These fixes for System Tray are still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.
  • The show hidden icons panel in the system tray should no longer block context menus opened after it.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.875 & Build 22623.875​

  • New! We enhanced the backup experience when using your Microsoft Account (MSA). Some devices might notice visual treatments for this enhancement. This is available to a small audience initially and deploys more broadly in the months that follow.
  • We fixed an issue that might affect some types of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) connections. These connections might have handshake failures. For developers, the affected connections are likely to send multiple frames followed by a partial frame with a size of less than 5 bytes within a single input buffer. If the connection fails, your app will receive the error, “SEC_E_ILLEGAL_MESSAGE”.
  • We stopped the start of daylight saving time in Jordan at the end of October 2022. The Jordan time zone will permanently shift to the UTC + 3 time zone.
  • We fixed an issue that affects transparency in layered windows. This occurs when you are in High-Definition remote applications integrated locally (RAIL) mode.

[General]​

  • We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders in recent Beta Channel builds.

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]​

  • The taskbar sometimes flashes when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • The taskbar takes longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • When using the bottom right edge gesture to see Quick Settings, the taskbar sometimes stays stuck in the expanded state, instead of dismissing to collapsed state.

About the Beta Channel​

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

I'm running system restore on my desktop to get back to before today to restore functionality. I'm on my laptop and the systray icons are broken on it too. My desktop has finished system restore and is now back to a previous state and I immediately change the insider settings to release preview to stop it from reinstalling this trash.

I also had to reinstall chrome as it was damaged in the process. I'm continuing to run this update on my laptop and although the systray is broken everything else seems to be working and the taskbar hasn't acted up yet on it. Both my desktop and laptop are AMD based but the laptop is using the Nvidia rtx 3060 gpu and my desktop is running an AMD RX 6900 XT.

Edit: I have observed that on both my desktop and laptop if the taskbar is hidden and I click on the systray up arrow the taskbar becomes unhidden and stays that way no matter what I do. When I rolled back on the desktop to 22623.870 nothing changed and even after I disabled insider status WU reinstalled 22623.875.

My desktop has no systray icons apart from the microphone, ethernet and speaker icons as the rest have been moved up to the extended systray area. My laptop has its icons where they were before the update. MS has created a monster with this update. How could they not have seen this behavior in dev testing?

Just updated there, Can move all taskbar icons and system tray icons no problem, Yay the right click task man is back :D Can do away with the icon on my taskbar now xD

I'm trying to rollback my desktop even further back and am using my laptop again. I've noticed that while the primary screen taskbar stays up the other two screens taskbars have hidden themselves. If the deep rollback works on the desktop I'll do the same on the laptop.

I received build 22623.875. I'm still unable to move hidden tray icons.

I doubted ".NET Framework update (KB5018341)", but I could not get good result.
No change - Uninstall KB5018341 (2022-10 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64).
No change- Turn off both .NET Framework 3.5 & 4.8
No change - Turn on both .NET Framework 3.5 & 4.8

Oooh thats weird, Have you tried changing the taskbars to all hidden then back to all showing? Been using with 2-3 monitors since win 11 launch on first dev build and never had that before.

Rolling back even a couple of months didn't work on my desktop as the taskbar becomes unhidden on the primary screen the first time I access the systray plus I still can't move the icons. Whatever changes the update did it also affects system restore points so I hope that MS issues a fix for this soon.

Edit: In my frustration I tried using the AMD gpu driver cleaner in safe mode just to see if it could somehow be associated with the issue. Once it was finished and rebooted I installed the last whql driver and rebooted. Upon reboot I received another message that the system needed to reboot so I let it and when it came back up.....everything works normally. Primary screen taskbar hides and the systray works again so I'm reluctant to re enable insider beta and just stay on RP.

22622? According to the MS release notes you should either be on 22621 or 22623 by now.....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I removed the package, I don't like a floating task bar. It broke The Translucent TB & the rounded TB I can remove more and get back to 22621 but my build is working fine as is, I reported the issue in The Hub along with recordings & images.

Fair enough. My 22623.875 has no floating taskbar or uses anything like Translucent TB. My only issue is not being able to rearrange the system tray. Everything else seems to be working well, including the Tablet Optimised Taskbar - the main reason I wanted to run the Beta build on this 2-in-1 Lenovo Toga 11e.

Everything was working fine till the last upgrade. The two apps that it broke are Windows apps, and why it works for some and not everyone is a mystery. 🤷‍♂️

The lack of rearranging is really an indication of how poorly some of the Windows 11 design choices are. I see in the dev build the option to move has been restored. You really must wonder if anyone at MS actually uses Windows 11. Usability for the most part is really poor.
