Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22621.378

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

How to get this update

Before installing this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Windows Update for BusinessNoSee the other options below.
Microsoft Update CatalogYesTo get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)NoSee the other options above.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

MS, as usual, is good at sowing confusion. Those instructions are not clear, the words 'remove' and 'uninstall' are used as if they mean the same thing. When read carefully it's apparent that although the title says 'remove', following the instructions will actually uninstall the LCU.

.
Yep. Either way, whatever language you use, it would be gone.

it is confusing as was not offered as a preview update
In 10 these 'C/D release' updates are clearly titled as being 'preview' and are always optional. With 11 MS don't call them a preview anywhere other than in the release notes. The only clue in Windows Update that gives away their 'preview' nature is that they are always offered as optional updates.

Microsoft said:
The “C” and “D” releases occur the third and fourth weeks of the month, respectively. These preview releases contain only non-security updates, and are intended to provide visibility and testing of the planned non-security fixes targeted for the next month’s Update Tuesday release....

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Yeah - getting this but it is confusing as was not offered as a preview update. So RTM is now ahead of RP?

Looks like, the changes in R.P. channel are then offered a few days later as optional preview to the general public build and the Build# is bumped by one.

An example was for 21H2, 22000.1041 in R.P. channel and 22000.1042 to the general public as optional preview update.
Now for 22H2, 22621.607 was on R.P. channel and then a few days later 22621.608 as optional preview to the general public. 🤣🤣

I think they are the same changes for 2 different targeted users. 😉

Same update on R.P. channel on Sep 30. 😉
1664588620118.png

The KB# is still the same, but the Build goes from 22621.607 to 22621.608. 🤣
