UPDATE 5/24:

 Microsoft Support:

May 9, 2023 - KB5026372 (OS Build 22621.1702)

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11, version 22H2, see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

  • New! This update adds a new toggle control on the Settings > Windows Update page. When you turn it on, we will prioritize your device to get the latest non-security updates and enhancements when they are available for your device. For managed devices, the toggle is disabled by default. For more information, see Get Windows updates as soon as they're available for your device.

  • This update addresses security issues for your Windows operating system.

Improvements

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5025305 (released April 25, 2023). When you install this KB:
  • This update affects the Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection security feature. The update adds more drivers to the database of drivers that are not compatible with it. A device uses this database when you enable this security feature in the Windows Security UI and it loads the drivers.

  • This update addresses a race condition in Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS). The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) might stop responding. This occurs when the system processes multiple local account operations at the same time. The access violation error code is 0xc0000005.

If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the May 2023 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22621.1626

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
IT adminsUsing provisioning packages on Windows 11, version 22H2 (also called Windows 11 2022 Update) might not work as expected. Windows might only be partially configured, and the Out Of Box Experience might not finish or might restart unexpectedly. Provisioning packages are .PPKG files which are used to help configure new devices for use on business or school networks. Provisioning packages which are applied during initial setup are most likely to be impacted by this issue. For more information on provisioning packages, please see Provisioning packages for Windows.

Note Provisioning Windows devices using Windows Autopilot is not affected by this issue.

Windows devices used by consumers in their home or small offices are not likely to be affected by this issue.
If you can provision the Windows device before upgrading to Windows 11, version 22H2, this will prevent the issue.

We are presently investigating and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
All usersAfter installing this update, some apps might have intermittent issues with speech recognition, expressive input, and handwriting when using Chinese or Japanese languages. Affected apps might sometimes fail to recognize certain words or might be unable to receive any input from speech recognition or affected input types. This issue is more likely to occur when apps are using offline speech recognition.

Note for app developers This issue only affects speech recognition using Speech Recognition Grammar Specification (SRGS) in Windows.Media.SpeechRecognition. Other implementations of speech recognition are not affected.
This issue is addressed in KB5026446.
IT adminsYou might have intermittent issues saving, copying, or attaching files using 32-bit apps, which are large address aware and using the CopyFile API. Windows devices are more likely to be affected by this issue when using some commercial or enterprise security software that uses extended file attributes. Microsoft Office apps, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel are only affected when using 32-bit versions and you might receive the error, "Document not saved."

This issue is unlikely to be experienced by consumers using Windows devices in their home or on non-managed commercial devices. Apps are not affected by this issue if they are 64-bit or 32-bit and NOT large address aware.
This issue is addressed in KB5027231.

How to get this update

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

It's about time the ISO got updated. When I tried just yesterday it still had .525 build.
Quite tempted to run an in-place upgrade now to clean up my install.

The link to download the ISO directly still has .525 (English UK, not sure about others).

Heads up, it likely will take many reboots for TPM to be properly recognized! Windows 11 is known to sometimes report standard hardware security as not supported!
Prior to this update, Windows Security reported "Your device meets the requirements for enhanced hardware security". After this update I'm now getting "Standard hardware security not supported". I'll wait for a while to see if additional reboots make a difference and if not, I guess I'll go for a repair install of Windows (as per the tutorial). It appears from other posts that I'm not Robinson Crusoe!

Also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and already a member of windows 11 and was a member of windows 10 under a different name.

Also have a Samsung watch 5, Samsung Series 7 55 inch TV, and a Samsung Galaxy 22 Ultra phone.

And all three of these can get windows 11 and 12 so never out of touch
I ran the Windows update troubleshooter, cleared all windows update files, did a sfc scan and restore health again and now I was able to install the KB5026372 update manually, but it took a very long time, over 30 minutes or so. And now I have the problem, that the windows update finds the KB5026372 for the 2nd time now, yesterday, and today again, tries to download it starts install goes to 25% and then the update just vanishes and it shows no updates anymore.

After this update I'm now getting "Standard hardware security not supported".
I suggest that you reboot and check again. Interestingly, it does not result in a Windows login lockout.

No need as the MCT downloads the current .1702 build.
The MCT downloads the 1702 build UNLESS you select the option to download the ISO image. That is still build 525. The ISO is needed for some things where an install.wim is required since the other options download images with an install.esd instead. For now, I used the MCT and then converted the ESD into a .WIM.

This is typical. Every time they update the MCT I have always noticed that the ISO image lags by a few days.

After this Update installed did anyone select Update and Shutdown, only for Windows to disregard that command and Update and Restart instead?
It happened on my other PC so I guess it's just one of those weird things that happen.

Yes I did notice that, I tried to get the UK ISO but it was still .525. The MCT was fine.

I've been using Rufus for a good while, since MCT, IIRC, was causing me to have a legacy-boot Windows, when I wanted UEFI-boot.

With my UEFI-BIOS settings, this shan't even be a thing anymore now.

I do not have that feature either, If you want it you will have to make EDGE you Default, Use The Bing Chat button, plus the EDGE Side Bar enable, and Not have any other Reg Hacks that MS does not like. I do not use EDGE or Bing so not having that feature is OK for me.

Well I did all of the above and still a no go. Oh well.

Yes I did notice that, I tried to get the UK ISO but it was still .525. The MCT was fine.

MSDN/MVS subscribers will get the 22621.1702 ISO downloads next Tuesday May 16 (usually 3rd Tuesday after patch Tuesday), I think.
not sure if MS will provide those updated ISO downloads on the MS techbench win11 iso download page for normal/casual win11 users next week; the .525 iso downloads are "v1". you have to wait for MS to post the new .1702 22h2 iso downloads with part of a name something like "v2"

    It is a gaming PC.

and all the 22h2 ISO image downloads from the win11 download page (including the en-us & uk editions) are still the "v1" .525 build as MS has not yet posted the updated ISO files as of Tue. May 16. it's been several days since the 22H2 MCT started to obtain the .1702 ESD image files.

but the 22621.1702 ISO image files were recently released to MSDN/MVS either earlier today 5/16 or sometime yesterday late Monday 5/15.

ask a generous person who has an active MS visual studio (MVS) account/subscription to fetch any of these updated 22H2 ISOs:

en-us_windows_11_consumer_editions_version_22h2_updated_may_2023_x64_dvd_a494c9f3.iso

for uk or en-gb users, it's this one:

Are you still not having any problems with KB5026372? I've read about a lot of problems on other sites. I'm kinda scared to update
