It should normally always be the current one running.

Running this command in CMD(admin) -

Dism /Get-ImageInfo /ImageFile:\\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition4\Recovery\WindowsRE\winre.wim /index:1

shows version 10.0.22621 on second recovery partition (6) in dual boot.

You must be dual-booting with Canary on that drive. The MR answer is pulled from the "latest" it can find, not the OS you are booted from which would be your normal daily of 22621. I think it's a quirk of MR and should not do that.

Running that command shows the WinRE is 22621.1702, the same as the latest ISO.

Yes I'm dual booting with Canary and Macrium got the latest of the two recovery partitions.

I'm in the release preview channel in Windows 11. I let Windows Update handle the installing of these compatibility updates automatically. I've spent many days\hours getting my new desktop PC stable without crashes so am not interested in tampering with the setup when it isn't needed.

On this page MS lists the files and version numbers included in this compatibility update.


All the files that have a version number in the update are 10.0.22621.1842

I'm using the Release Preview version 22H2 build 22621.1848 and have checked the version numbers of the files in the update with those on my system and the file versions on my PC are later. See screenshot below. Not a good option for me to install this update manually.



[UPDATE] I've checked more files against what is in this compability update and what is in 1848 (from the csv file released by MS of the contents) and there are many files which have different version numbers and file sizes.

I'm thinking it's good that my [download > use DISM command to install] procedure didn't work. I think the ones of you who advise just waiting for MS to handle it are right, and given that we're on 1848 (see Marcus above) and not 1842, we might well already have what's in the update.

There's nothing to install from the .cab file. Just extract it and check inside: half the setup files are in Chinese - tho seems gibberish (same goes for the .xml files). You'd think they're encrypted - but they're all 1 kb in size. There's also tons of bogus files - as if multi-renamed (see attachment). Unless you manually copy and register each file - there's no way you can install that crap (which looks - as if a dev's 6 year old played with the files - before uploading it to MUC).

For now, this update is not available for installation on any of my various systems.

Nothing offered here either—-so I’ll wait - like Brink says - till automatically installed.
