UPDATE 10/18:

 Windows Blogs:

UPDATE 10/10: We are starting to roll out Cumulative Update Build 25967.1010 (KB5032106). This update does not include anything new and is designed to test our servicing pipeline for builds in the Canary Channel.

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25967 to the Canary Channel.

REMINDER: As builds released to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” we will offer limited documentation for builds flighted to the Canary Channel including documenting only the most significant and highly impactful known issues. Please note that we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build.

What’s new in Build 25967

Introducing the new Settings homepage

We’re introducing a new homepage in Settings that offers you a dynamic and personalized experience. It provides an overview of your device, quick access to key settings, and helps manage your Microsoft account.

New Settings homepage.

We created interactive cards that represent various device and account related settings, grouped by commonly accessed functions. Each card is optimized to offer the most relevant information and controls at your fingertips. In this release, you’ll see up to seven cards, with more coming soon.

Here’s an overview of each card:
  1. Recommended settings: This card adapts to your specific usage patterns, providing timely and relevant settings options. It’s designed to streamline your settings management and save you time.
  2. Cloud storage: Gives you an overview of your cloud storage use and lets you know when you’re nearing capacity.
  3. Account recovery: Helps keep your Microsoft account more secure by helping you add additional recovery info so you never get locked out of your account, even if you forget your password.
  4. Personalization: Brings customization to the forefront by offering one-click access to update your background theme or change your color mode.
  5. Microsoft 365: Provides a quick glimpse of your subscription status and benefits, along with the ability to take some key actions right in Settings instead of going to the web.
  6. Xbox: Similar to the Microsoft 365 card, you’ll be able to view your subscription status and manage the subscription from the Settings app.
  7. Bluetooth Devices: To simplify your Bluetooth device management experience, we’ve brought this to the forefront so you can quickly access and connect to your favorite Bluetooth-enabled devices.
You can take swift actions directly from this page with just a click, making device and account management seamless and efficient. What sets the homepage apart even further is that it’s more than just a landing page—it evolves and learns with you. As you use your device, it’ll adjust to provide the most relevant and useful information based on your usage and preferences.

NOTE: This experience will only be available on Windows 11 Home and Pro editions and not on devices managed by organizations.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Settings > Settings Homepage.

Changes and Improvements

[General]

  • The Cortana app is removed after updating to this build. We have ended support for Cortana – see this page for more information.

[Quick Settings]

  • We are trying out a scrollable view of quick settings to some Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel as part of evaluating effectiveness of different layouts. As part of the change, rather than having to edit the list to add new quick actions, the user now has a scrollable list of quick actions that can be rearranged.

A scrollable view of quick settings.
A scrollable view of quick settings.

[Settings]

  • System Components currently listed in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps page, have moved to its own page under Settings > System > System Components.

    New System Components Settings page.
    New System Components Settings page.
  • Xbox Game Bar is now Game Bar under Settings > Gaming.

[Windows Subsystem for Linux]

  • The September 2023 update for the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) has been rolled out and includes networking improvements in the latest Insider Preview builds. See this blog post for more details.

Fixes for known issues

  • Fixed an issue which was causing Insiders to see bugchecks (green screens) in recent Canary Channel builds when shutting down, logging out, or restarting.
  • Fixed a white flash when opening File Explorer in dark mode, as well as an issue where File Explorer could get stuck with the wrong colors after switching between light and dark mode.
  • Fixed a few issues that were leading to explorer.exe crashes.
  • Fixed an issue where File Explorer sorting changes wouldn’t persist in folders after you navigated away and back.
  • Fixed an issue which was causing icons on the desktop to turn into white generic icons until you refreshed the desktop.
  • Did some work to help improve File Explorer performance, including fixing a memory leak which would impact performance over time, and fixing an issue where the tab would get stuck with a loading icon even though loading was finished.

Known issues

  • [NEW] If you need to roll back to the previous build (Build 25951) if this build has issues, you may experience an issue where the Start menu or Settings do not work. See this forum post on how to get out of this state. After updating to the next set of builds in the Canary Channel, this issue will be resolved for rolling back.
  • We’re investigating reports that the print queue is no longer accessible.
  • Some popular games may not work correctly on the most recent Insider Preview builds in the Canary Channel. Please be sure to submit feedback in Feedback Hub on any issues you see with playing games on these builds.

Microsoft Store Update

Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels running version 22309.xxxx.x of the Microsoft Store and higher will see the following improvement rolling out:

Visual refresh of Windows license pages: We’ve improved the look and feel of Windows license pages in the Microsoft Store to be consistent with Windows 11. The pages provide comparison tables between Windows editions to help make it easier to choose what license is best for you.

Redesigned Windows license page in the Microsoft Store.
Redesigned Windows license page in the Microsoft Store.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Microsoft Store.

For developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at aka.ms/windowsinsidersdk.

SDK NuGet packages are now also flighting at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK which include:
These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integration in CI/CD pipelines.

SDK flights are now published for both the Canary and Dev Channels, so be sure to choose the right version for your Insider Channel.

Remember to use adaptive code when targeting new APIs to make sure your app runs on all customer machines, particularly when building against the Dev Channel SDK. Feature detection is recommended over OS version checks, as OS version checks are unreliable and will not work as expected in all cases.

About the Canary Channel

The Canary Channel is the place to preview platform changes that require longer-lead time before getting released to customers. Some examples of this include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, etc. Builds that we release to the Canary Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and some of the changes we try out in the Canary Channel will never ship, and others could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.

The builds that will be flighted to the Canary Channel are “hot off the presses,” flighting very soon after they are built, which means very little validation and documentation will be done before they are offered to Insiders. These builds could include major issues that could result in not being able to use your PC correctly or even in some rare cases require you to reinstall Windows. We will offer limited documentation for the Canary Channel, but we will not publish a blog post for every flight – only when new features are available in a build.

Our Canary Channel won’t receive daily builds; however, we may ramp up releasing builds more frequently in the future.

The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

Worked perfectly via the "VM" method using WU - the annoying "feature" of desktop icons going white anytime you ran anything seems also to have been fixed,

Skjámynd 2023-10-06 102831.png

ODBC functionality working again -- used in things like EXCEL creating queries to get data from remote SQL databases etc.

Skjámynd 2023-10-06 105654.png

The VM is on a laptop running incompatible hardware (CPU Intel i5 GEN 6)

Screenshot_20231006_103554.png

Now cloning to real hardware

BTW this is also a good way of making a "Windows to GO" -- simply restore the VM to the external device via macrium or whatever and re-install the bootloader (bcdboot.exe) -- no extra software needed - but warning - don't clone this again back to an internal drive as Windows will still think its a Windows to Go device and won't update to newer builds.

2) clone existing windows to a VM so you don't later have to re-install most of the physical drivers

3) Update Windows in the VM

4) Clone back to physical hardware --
What software do you use to clone to VM and back?

C'mon folks -- Rufus is fine - but just try my method if you've any experience of using VM's -- usually 100% success rate even if a bit more work. !!!!! And no probs with "Non supported hardware".

and folks just try the bog standard get around on new installs when Ms insists on an Ms account -- this still works -- userid nobody@nobody.com , password -- anything you like. Then you get message ""Oops something went wrong" -- just click the NEXT button and then all OK as it will set up a local account.

Why people are posting convoluted fixes instead of this 100% easy way I've no idea -- maybe they are high paid I.T tech's wanting to protect their jobs, -- I know loads of those people are very professional but perhaps a bit of "Glasnost" would benefit zillions of end users. In my experience offering help to even the most basic of novices always pays huge dividends in the end even if the journey can be a bit frustatable.

You are one of the lucky few for which it did. I'm assuming you have updated the firmware on your Latitude E6430 to TPM 2.0. I don't have the option to do that on my Lenovo Yoga 11e (System Four in my 'Other Info') so it fails on TPM as well as CPU.

Not quite -- clean install via dism /Apply-Image from an ISO or update via a VM.....
It was actually even easier than that. My unsupported Lenovo Yoga 11e was running Canary as a native boot vhdx. I just took a copy of the vhdx, native booted it on a supported device, then copied it back to the Lenovo after it had updated.

Still, it's a worrying trend that MS may be starting to clamp down on running 11 on unsupported devices. What they are only trying out in Canary at present may make its way into the release build eventually. :(

My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 4GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds as a native boot .vhdx.
Both of my desktops are now updated. I had to do two tries on both of them. On my new desktop I disconnected all USB devices except for the mouse/keyboard and the USB hub. This use to work until a few builds back. On my old desktop I left the USB hub, mouse/keyboard and two drives connected and got the same results as the new desktop. I really do want to know what the first attempt changes or adds that allows the second try to work. On the plus side Both of the computers got the A testing instead of the B testing I usually get. Anothe plus is that it seems the problem I was having with File Explorer is fixed. File Explorer kept trying to search or load files after all files were loaded. The circle kept spinning and I would have to hit the X to make it stop.

That one I never tried, the one I used with prior builds was no@thankyou.com for that purpose, but did not work with 25967, I guess they blocked one and forgot the nobody@nobody.com, I'll give it a try. 😎
I used oobe\bypassnro with 25967 and that still worked. 😉🤷‍♂️

Hey Guys

I have issues with this build, My PUBG stopped working after this update and it wasn't working in the previous build as well.
I have tried all the possible solutions but didn't help. If anyone has an idea to fix it please do share.

This is the error I am getting, I have it on Steam.

Good to know that one is still there.

I found another way to update my Canary from 25951 to 25967, but it would be nice to find a new workaround that works 'in-situ' rather having to use another machine to do the update. My fear is that once they have finished testing in the Canary channel MS are going to extend this clamp down on unsupported devices to the release build.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

I just tried again with no@thankyou.com and this time that worked too, not sure why it did not work yesterday.
I built the ISO again today. Something was not right when I downloaded yesterday from uupdump. 😂😂🤷‍♂️
no@thankyou.com worked fine today. 🤷‍♂️

it gives this message using either no@thankyou.com or nobody@nobody.com 😂😂😂

The 25967 installation media cannot boot on a legacy BIOS machine anymore, it just gives "Disk error".
Had to jump to the hoops to get 25967 on the old MSI legacy Bios laptop.
I basically used the 25951 Installation media and replaced the install.wim with the one from 25967.
I used it for upgarading the old unsupported laptop from Windows 10 19045.3516 to Canary 25967.1000.
I then used the same installation media to do a clean install on the same laptop using the usual known tricks. 😉

Up and running with Canary 25967.

That seems reasonable, after all W11 requires a UEFI bios machine.....

I have had issues when using a hybrid W10 install media with a W11 install.esd/install.wim, I ended up with a blank Windows Security window. Maybe a W11/W11 hybrid would be better, but I'd prefer to find a new workaround now that appraserres.dll no longer works.

A clean install would be a last resort. I really need to be able to update my Lenovo Yoga 11e through Windows Update or an in-place upgrade. It uses an unusual touchscreen and there are no drivers for it in any standard Windows install. There are some obscure drivers needed that are only available from Lenovo, and you have to jump through a lot of hoops to install them.

I found out what is causing the Disk Error when Booting on a legacy Bios box.
They changed the Boot Manager, and that puts out the Disk Error message.
If I replace the boot Manager with the one from 25951 then it boots fine on a legacy Bios machine, and I can do a clean install right now with the 25967 installation media, it just finished now.

25951:
1696646793521.png

25967:
1696646824880.png

As for the windows security missing, the ISO the I downloaded yesterday had a problem and was missing the SecHealthUI, the one I made today worked fine, Security shows version 25967.
Something was missing on uupdump yesterday. 🤷‍♂️

The 25951 ISO with install.wim 25967 works fine if you are at 25951 or below, once we are at 25967 and above, we really need some other hack to bypass the requirements checks that they added in this build. 😉😎
