Highlights

Note: Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.

Gradual rollout

These might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually.
  • [Taskbar] New! You can now share local files directly from the search results that appear in the Search box on the taskbar.

  • [Settings] New! The Delivery Optimization Settings page now matches the Windows 11 design. See Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Delivery Optimization.

  • [Windows Share] New! This update removes the search box from the Windows Share window.
  • [Lock screen] New! Media controls now show in the lower part of the lock screen at its center when media is playing.

  • [Start menu] New! The "Sign out" option is now on the account manager when you open the Start menu. To change to a different user, select the ellipses (...). A list of other users appears to make it easier to switch.

Normal rollout

  • [Microsoft Edge] It sometimes stops responding when you use IE mode.
  • [Windows identity protection] Users no longer need to enter their credentials more than once for Outlook or another encrypted email app. A user will be prompted for their PIN one time only.
  • [Copilot Pro subscription] New! You can now manage your Copilot Pro subscription in Settings. Sign in to your Microsoft account and go to Settings>Accounts.
  • [Task Manager] It stops responding when you switch from a high contrast theme to a normal theme.

Improvements

Note: To view the list of addressed issues, click or tap the OS name to expand the collapsible section.

Windows 11, version 23H2

Important: Use EKB KB5027397 to update to Windows 11, version 23H2.
This non-security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • This build includes all the improvements in Windows 11, version 22H2.
  • No additional issues are documented for this release.

Windows 11, version 22H2: Enterprise and Education editions

This non-security update includes quality improvements. Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [IE mode] Microsoft Edge sometimes stops responding when you use IE mode.
  • [Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)] There is inconsistent data between TCP_INFO_v1 and GetPerTcpConnectionEstats. File synchronization services use TCP connection performance analysis tools. This issue affects how accurate those tools are.
  • [Country and Operator Settings Asset] This update brings COSA profiles up to date for certain mobile operators.
  • [Outlook and other encrypted email apps] This issue prompts for your PIN each time you open an encrypted email.
  • [Microsoft Defender for Endpoint] Work Folders files fail to sync when Defender for Endpoint is on.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5043143) - 22621.4245 and 22631.4245

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersAfter installing this update, some customers have reported that their device reboots multiple times or becomes irresponsive with blue or green screens. According to the reports, some devices automatically open the Automatic Repair tool after repeated reboot attempts. In some cases, BitLocker recovery can also be triggered. We are currently investigating this issue. We will provide an update when more information is available.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you will find the link to download and install the update.
Yes (MSU)To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files that are provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5043145.

For a list of the files that are provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5043143) - versions 22621.4245 and 22631.4245.

Ran the clean-up script downloaded from this site & that made no difference.

The next step would be an In-Place upgrade (repair install).
This will only fix Windows problems. It won't fix driver problems or 3rd party apps, issues.

An In-Place Upgrade "compares" what is installed on the computer, with the Windows ISO image.
Then, it overwrites any corrupted Windows files, with clean copies from the ISO image.
This is how it "repairs" Windows while allowing you to keep your programs and personal files.

On my comp it takes about 35 minutes (downloading the ISO and doing the In-Place upgrade).

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Note: It could also just be a boo-boo by Microsoft. You're on Win Pro for workstations and running a Xeon processor.
I don't think that should matter, but who knows... maybe they haven't gotten around to including your CPU in the update yet?
This is a "Preview" update.

See here for my problem:

Update KB5043145 was installed after which the USB completely stopped working. No mouse, keyboard, bluetooth! No way of giving any input to the computer.

In device manager it shows under Universal Serial Bus Controllers:
USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller with an error yellow exclamation mark and the error:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.

Trying to update the drivers does not work. Reinstalling Intel Chipset drivers also had no effect.

Luckily I have a remote desktop program installed so I can still control the computer.
How do I roll-back this update and uninstall KB5043145 ?

EDIT: Update a little later ....
uninstalled KB5043145 from Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates
and USB and bluetooth are working again!

So Microsoft, fix this issue please!

Welcome to the forum.

So far I have updated 3 PC’s 2 that aren’t supported for windows 11 but run it anyway. Not a single issue.

The problem that you may be facing isn’t true for everyone. That’s just the way of the Windows.

Sometimes... things you have connected to your PC during an update can mess things up.

Like... controllers, USB docks... etc.

Also, the three complaints you link to in the Microsoft Tech Community (yours included) suspiciously appear to be some types of mini PC’s.
Coincidence… or something.

Again, if you post a thread members will try to help.
Either that or wait until Patch Tuesday on the 8th of October and hope whatever is causing this for you, is fixed for you.

This update messed up the USB xHCI driver (yellow triangle, code 10 on PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4DED&CC_0C03 or PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4DED&SUBSYS_201F1043&REV_01) for me too in result of which my keyboard (and touchpad) on the ASUS Vivobook Slate T3300KA stopped working. USB driver was unfixable. Had to uninstall the update from WinRE.

The affected one you can try this:
Install a third party USB controller or a p/s mouse keyboard and uninstall the problematic device and the restart the pc.
Maybe it will work.
(if the affected device is a mini PC i don't think this is an option)

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming (2022) (Model FA507RM-ES73) laptop. It has Windows 11 Pro.

Last night when I shut down my computer it said it needed to do an update. It was doing the update when I went to bed. When I got up this morning I was shocked to see that it had crashed while restarting. The spinning circle during start was frozen. I held the power button down and it crashed during boot again. I tried this again and Windows was smart enough to undo the failed update. Thankfully, it booted this time normally. This is what I found in the Settings > Windows Update

2024-09-27 10_07_31-Settings.jpg

I just checked my desktop with Windows 11 Pro. It rarely is shut down and is normally sleeping when not in use. After I woke it and checked its settings I see it wants to install this update. Should I let Windows install KB504314 or wait?

I seen some reports on Reddit today of people whom had installed the KB5043145 update and were unable to boot afterwards.

Some of them said they manually triggered a repair at boot and disabled/paused updates after twice having the same results. Uninstalling the update where possible.

Not all computers are acting the same, I updated 3 today with no problems, 2 are unsupported.
