Be sure to follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

Gradual rollout

A gradual rollout distributes a release update over a period of time, rather than all at once. This means that users receive the updates at different times, and it might not be immediately available to all users. To see the status of this feature, go to Windows release health dashboard.
  • [Copilot]
    • New! You can open Copilot on Windows with Win + C. You can personalize your Copilot key and Win + C experience at any time with the existing “Customize Copilot key on keyboard” under Settings > Personalization > Text input. For Enterprise users, see Updated Windows and Microsoft 365 Coplot Chat experience.

    • New! To start Press to talk with Copilot on Windows, hold the Copilot key—or Win + C if your keyboard doesn’t have one—for two seconds. Press Esc or stay silent for a few seconds to end the call. Use Alt + Spacebar to talk with Copilot on Windows. You can interact with Copilot using your voice and receive instant responses while continuing your tasks.

  • [Search on Taskbar] Improved support for web search providers in Windows Search for the European Economic Area (EEA), including with increased discoverability.
  • [Settings] New! Find answers to commonly asked questions about your PC and Windows 11 in the new FAQs section under Settings > System > About page. It covers topics like system setup, performance, and compatibility—all in one place.
  • [Taskbar] New! Admins can configure taskbar policies so users can unpin specific apps, ensuring they are not repinned during the next policy refresh. To turn on this feature, use the new PinGeneration option.

  • [Widgets] New! There are some new updates to the new Widgets on Lock experience for devices in the EEA. In addition to accessibility and craftsmanship improvements, the Lock screen weather widget now supports customization. To configure your weather widget, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and select the “Customize widget” option from the weather widget more options menu. More widgets will be customizable in the future.

  • [Windows Share] New! When you drag a local file from File Explorer or your desktop, a tray appears at the top of your screen. Drop the file into a suggested app or select More to open the Windows share window.

  • [Input]
    • Fixed: Voice typing won't start from the touch keyboard when using the Chinese (Simplified) narrow layout.
    • When using the Symbols section of the touch keyboard, pressing the key to change pages might unexpectedly insert a character into password fields.
  • [Voice access] Fixed: Voice access might stop responding with error “working on it” when dictating.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5058546) - 22621.5412 and 22631.5412

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

1 Noto fonts issue

Applies to: All users

Symptom
There are reports of blurry or unclear CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text when displayed at 96 DPI (100% scaling) in Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. The March 2025 Preview Update introduced Noto fonts in collaboration with Google, for CJK languages as fallbacks to improve text rendering when websites or apps don’t specify appropriate fonts. The issue is due to limited pixel density at 96 DPI, which can reduce the clarity and alignment of CJK characters. Increasing the display scaling improves clarity by enhancing text rendering.

Workaround
As a temporary workaround, increase your display scaling to 125% or 150% to improve text clarity. For more information, see Change your screen resolution and layout in Windows.

We are investigating this issue and will provide more information when it is available.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

Available
Next Step
Included
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you'll find the link to download and install the update.
Check for optional updates
Included
To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File information

For a list of the files in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5058502.

For a list of the files in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5058546) - versions 22621.5412 and 22631.5412.

Unclear why they keep pushing updates on 23H2. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️
Besides, if you have this on your PC, Microsoft tells you to install 24H2. It's like having Win 10 now. "Times, they are a changing" Bob Dylan.

Who is more confused about these odd updates, MS or us? Seems like they have no obvious way forward like when they were recently adding new features to Windows 10

My rather jaundiced view is that MS are placating the at times noisy people on the internet who have been constantly reminding us all how bad 24H2 supposedly is and they don't want to use it.

When it comes to eating popcorn.; I wait within 3 hours of the 24H2 cumulative update threads, and the ensuing 100 posts within that 3 hours, then sit back and watch the fireworks.

As for this Cumulative Preview, I am interested to know if anyone has any problems with this “23H2 Cumulative Preview”

Yeah well I tried all the fixes suggested in another thread and no joy. It's not just one PC. It's ALL the PCs that have 24H2 installed. 3 of 6 in my home. They don't even show themselves on network explorer. If I put them back on 23H it all works. If I create shortcuts to the ones not showing in explorer, they work. I guess I need someone smart to fix it for me, I sure can't figure it out.

Which thread? As I am not sure what the thread says:

If you decide to try again:

Network Discovery & Sharing
- Ensure “network discovery” is enabled on your 24H2 computers. Open PowerShell and run:

Powershell:
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Network Discovery"

If the rules are disabled, you can enable them with:

Powershell:
Enable-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Network Discovery"

- Also check that “file and printer sharing” is enabled under `Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.

Firewall Rules
- Your 24H2 systems might have different firewall policies blocking inbound traffic.
- Run:

Powershell:
Get-NetFirewallRule -Direction Inbound | Where-Object {$_.Enabled -eq $false}

If necessary, enable relevant rules like “File and Printer Sharing” and “Remote Desktop”.

Network Profiles
- Confirm that your 24H2 PCs are on the same network profile (Private, not Public).

Powershell:
Get-NetConnectionProfile

If a PC is set to Public, switch to Private:

Powershell:
Set-NetConnectionProfile -Name "YourNetworkName" -NetworkCategory Private

SMB Configuration
- Windows might have disabled SMB protocol. Check with:

Powershell:
Get-WindowsFeature -Name FS-SMB1

If it’s missing, install it:

Powershell:
Install-WindowsFeature -Name FS-SMB1 -IncludeAllSubFeature

Group Policy Differences
- If they are are managed devices, check Group Policies (gpedit.msc):
- Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Lanman Workstation
- Look for policies affecting remote connections and network visibility.
