[UPDATE 11/26] We are releasing Builds 26100.7309 and 26200.7309 (KB5070311) today which is a small update that includes some minor changes.

Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Builds 26100.7296 and 26200.7296 (KB5070311) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100) and version 25H2 (Build 26200).

Below is a summary of the new features and improvements included as part of this update separated into two sections: gradual rollout and normal rollout. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.

Gradual rollout​

The following features and improvements might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually. Text bolded in brackets indicate the area of the change being documented. Please note that features and improvements that gradually roll out may not begin rolling out right away nor will they immediately show up right away.

Copilot+ PC only experiences​

  • [Camera] New! As part of the Copilot+ PCs experience, you can use Windows Studio Effects, which provides AI-powered camera enhancements on an additional, alternative camera such as a USB webcam or your laptop’s built-in rear camera. To get started, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras and select your preferred camera from the connected cameras list. Then, open the Advanced camera options and turn on Use Windows Studio Effects. After you turn it on, you can adjust Studio Effects from the camera settings page or the quick settings menu in the taskbar. For more info on the different AI experiences, see ms/copilotpluspcs.

The following fixes were added on 11/26:
  • [Settings] Fixed: Settings may unexpectedly close when navigating to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone, Camera, or Location pages after the latest updates.
  • [Search indexer] Fixed: After the latest updates, File Explorer may no longer perform search on certain SMB shares
  • [Notifications] Fixed: After the latest updates, explorer.exe may hang (leading to the taskbar becoming unresponsive) after certain notifications.

Have you tried doing a repair install from the settings/system/recovery? That is usually the Screenshot 2025-11-29 124642.webpeasiest way to fix Windows Update errors and take you to your latest insider build. It will save all your files, apps, settings, and customizations (except a few custom icons if you set any).

KB5070311 is the Insider Preview update for this month.

Just no "Cumulative Update Preview" (aka: non-security update) for the public builds this month.

We should still get our usual "Cumulative Update" (aka: security update) this patch Tuesday (Dec. 9) though.

I have noticed that several times now only the "Insider Preview" was released. It seems as if these are the new preview releases. I love the ability of Microsoft to clearly communicate.

I think that I am mere weeks from pulling Windows from all my systems and giving up and going to Linux. Not joking. That is why I have been posting so infrequently lately. Getting tired of the rubbish from Microsoft lately.

I think it would take something worse than confusion between a Cumulative Release Preview and an Insider Preview to get me to drop Windows.

If Windows goes subscription, that might do it.

Oh, believe me, there is a LOT more than that, obviously. I made that statement with great difficulty. I have always been a huge Microsoft fan, and full disclosure, I was a Microsoft Enterprise Support Engineer for over a decade. So, believe me, it takes a lot to push me over the edge.

I'm not 100% there yet, but I am far enough along that I am now weighing alternatives. It's entirely possible that I may decide that the alternatives are no better, in which case I would stick with Windows simply because I know it so darn well. But I'm tired of being sick and tired as the expression goes :-).

I'm a perpetual low-level user in Windows.

Linux has been about to take over the desktop from Windows for roughly the past 30 years. Which doesn't mean it'll never happen. Some *nix variant seems to be nearly everywhere else, though. (Servers, Android. MacOS runs on top of it, now.)

I have updated my computer to this version now showing 26200.7309 but dism command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth shows failed

Windows 11 Canary builds often fail DISM because:


❌ The OS image version (26200)​


❌ Does not match the DISM servicing stack (26100)​


When these versions drift apart, DISM cannot find a valid component source.


This is a known behaviour on Dev/Canary builds.

edit: I did a sfc /scannow after reboot and it found errors and fix them then I ran the DISM restore health command again and this is the result

That's the main reason I pulled back quite a while ago. I still enjoy to see the ability of users trying to work around a land mine.

I have an odd issue. If I put my pc into sleep over night, the Start Menu will no longer respond to mouse input. I click on the Start Button, and nothing happens, but if I press the Windows key on the keyboard it will appear and I can click, Search works with the mouse click. To fix this I log off and ion again. I have done all the dism checks and sfc no errors.
