Summary​

This update improves the Windows 11, version 24H2 and 25H2, and Windows Server 2025 out-of-box experience (OOBE). This update applies only to the Windows OOBE process and is available only when OOBE updates are installed.

How to get this update​

Windows OOBE

This update is installed during the Windows OOBE process if an Internet connection is available.

PrerequisitesThere are no prerequisites for installing this update.
Restart informationYour device requires a restart after applying this update.
Update replacementThis update does not replace a previously released update.

What for is this, really? I suspect, to patch some ways used to avoid creation of Microsoft account during initial installation and upset people, who don't want it, once more...

Does MS integrate these updates to their new ISO images? I mean MVS subscription ISOs. How about bootable USBs created by MCT?

This is a most annoying change for no real gain.

The standard downloaded iso (for example) is often out of date, and previously in oobe, it would simply install the iso version, then you would use Windows update to bring it up to date.

Now oobe automatically updates to latest version during oobe and this can take a long time slowing down oobe process.

Corporate users have complained about this on the Feedback hub as it adds a huge amount of time to their deployment processes.

So far isos/usb drives created by MCT are upto date, so do not need to go through the update stage - however MS are not always diligent in keeping MCT up to date. Even 1 CU update ahead of MCT forces the length change.

You can get round this by using the local install method.

Good tip !!
But for others reading this response--PLEASE NOTE !!!!!

What's really annoying is when one posts a specific problem like I can't access settings so I CAN'T GET TO WINDOWS UPDATE because the settings pane just briefly appears and disappears and then we get a whole slew of users who obviously haven't read the posts saying just "uninstall" the updates or select windows update again.

But how do you get into the windows update screen if the settings app just doesn't work !!!

I fixed that problem though on 25H2 by running setup.exe again from within windows using the iso and select keep all aps and data .Something obviously in the original WU hosed up the system.

Stop with the constant paranoia.

Almost all OOBE Updates are there to fix or improve Autopilot deployments for enterprise customers. They're not targeting your MS Account loopholes. MS wouldn't wait until OOBE to patch an OOBE hole, they would update the base ISO (in the first place).

Never. OOBE updates cannot be integrated to offline images. It's purely designed to be pulled by WU during the OOBE workflow. This process has existed since W11 21H was released.

MS is only making the announcement to inform their enterprise customers that Autopilot updates have been added.
