Downloading and installing.


Stuck at 42% installing for a long time before it moved up.
Finally asking for restart.

This cleaned up the 190MB.


Scans are clean.

Contrary to the Blog statement. The problem is still happening; they only fixed specific cases.
At Microsoft, they just did not understand how to reproduce the problem and make a proper fix for all cases.
Same happens with latest public build 26200.7623.

[File Explorer]​

• Fixed an issue causing File Explorer to show a white flash when navigating between pages for some Insiders after the previous flight.

This is easy to reproduce when opening File explorer to "This PC" and adding new tabs.


Here is the other case with Black flashing.
This is more difficult to reproduce. Happens when file explore is opened to "Home" and after switching from Dark to Light mode

Still this problem on some machines with this latest Build 28020.1371. The scan is stuck and does not progress to show the files that can be removed.






DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /ANALYZECOMPONENTSTORE was showing one reclaimable package.

Had to use this command below to get rid of it, because "System > Storage > Temporary files" scan was not working on 2 machines.

DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /STARTCOMPONENTCLEANUP

downloaded and installed on two computers. No issues to report as of now.

Update on Laptop

I downloaded the ISO from UUP-dump, it worked fine for a clean install. but when I tried an update in place on a system that was at 28020.1362 it failed to boot on 1st restart, I tried a second time update repair in place on a system that was already updated fine with W.U to 28020.1371 and got the same problem.
Anybody else getting this problem with this UUP-dump 28020.1371 ISO?

Edit:
Trying a reinstall with the Repair Version from recovery W.U. on the same machine to see if there is the same issue or not.
We'll see how that goes.


Same exact problem with Recovery Reinstall with (repair version) as I had with the UUP-dump ISO.
Got a green screen and then undoing the changes, but it could no longer boot and showed up this message, I could not fix the PC.
I had to restore a good backup that I made before doing these tests that caused these failures.



After restoring my good backup that was done after the initial successful Windows Update, I'm now back up and running again.
Looks like the Recovery W.U. (repair version} has the same problem that I get with the UUP-dump ISO.
Time for another FBH report.

Weird that this problem happens on my Dell XPS 8940 and not om my Dell XPS 8930 and other machines.
I guess I will need a clean install on the one that fails and try again the same test.

I repeated the same test after a clean install of 28020.1371 and got exactly the same problem.
Something specific with this build and the Dell XPS 8940 that is causing the problem with update in place with ISO and with recovery reinstall with (repair version) with Windows Update. I never had any of these problems before with any Build on this same machine.
I'll have to restore a good back up again and wait for the next Build to see what happens with the same test.
This is quite frustrating; I cannot find any explanation for what is happening with this build.

Note that both machine XPS 8930 and XPS 8940 are multiboot. The other machines are single system boot.

XPS 8930 has Public Build 26200.7623 and Canary Build 28020.1371
XPS 8940 has R.P. Build 26200.7623, Dev Build 26220.7523 and Canary Build 28020.1371.

I retried the same update in place with the same ISO on the XPS 8940 on Jan 25, 2026, and everything worked fine.
I have no idea what Microsoft changed under the covers from Jan 14 to Jan 25. The only thing I did in those 10 days where checks for updates which only found defended updates and Apps updates from the MS Store.
Pretty confusing. The original problem was pretty consistent each time I tried 10 days ago. Today it worked just fine.

Yet again a mostly pointless upgrade.
The whole point of Canary was to trail blaze new features to see how they landed with Insiders, with users accepting they were unpolished and could be buggy, and feature may never get adopted in release version.

Bug fixes could be incorporated in next feature upgrade. Canary has lost its way!

With the direction the Canary builds are going, I think that MS should change the name from Canary to Monotonous.

Seems Canary has become the beta for 26H1/2 and things have reverted back to the way things were prior to when Canary was added as a channel.

It has? I haven't noticed any Canary updates to get all excited about. I only keep the Canary builds on my two desktops because of some of the programs installed on them. On my newest PowerSpec (B746) I moved my main programs from the Canary build to my 25H2 install. The other programs I rarely use so they're still installed on the Canary build. On my older PowerSpec (G156) I have to keep the Canary build because I have a few programs that I can't reinstall.

What is this weird search screen that showed up today, Jan 23,2026 on Canary Build 28020.1371?
I see the same on 3 machines so far, I suspect it will be on all.
It doesn't make any sense to me. Invisible text description on all those icons.
Looks like some new experimental feature gone bad.

The text isn't missing, it's just that with the particular color mode you're using you've ended up with white text on a nearly white background. I've enhanced this screenshot to make that more obvious.




On my Canary build it looked like yours only the first time, but normal every time after that. Try changing your Windows mode from light to dark and back again and see if yours settles down.

Works fine in Dark mode, but in light mode they use white on white, the same problem they have with the new Run Dialog.



This is Custom, with Widows mode Dark and app mode Light.

Try with this color setting:



If I don't use Custom Dark Windows mode and Light for app mode, then they use black text on white background.

I'm not seeing that on my supported Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1 (though I did the very first time I clicked on Search). Same goes for my unsupported Dell Latitude E4310 (including the 'first time' glitch) and in my Hyper-V VM on a supported host (that also had white text the first time and black thereafter).

That's my preferred setting anyway, and has white text on black every time.
