Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important
: Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on consumer and non-managed business devices over the past several months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start and operate normally, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. Updated certificates will continue to be delivered through Windows Update in the coming months.

End of updates

Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

To stay protected and up to date, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11.

Improvements

This update includes new features and quality improvements that were part of the following update:
This update addresses security vulnerabilities documented in the following guide:
The following summary outlines key quality improvements addressed by this update. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.
  • [Secure Boot] With this update, Windows quality updates include additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices receive the new certificates only after demonstrating sufficient successful update signals, maintaining a controlled and phased rollout.
  • [Virtualization] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that could result in Stop errors HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001) and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) after installing KB5089573 on some devices during system restarts, virtual machine operations, or while running some gaming applications
  • [Folder customization] This update introduces a security hardening change to how Windows processes desktop.ini files. As a result, some users might notice missing custom folder icons or localized folder names for content from downloaded or remote locations. Note that access to folders is not affected. For more information, see Custom folder icons or localized folder names might not appear after installing the June 2026 Windows security update.
If you've already installed previous updates, your device will download and install only the new updates included in this package.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5094135)- 26100.8648

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To learn more about SSUs, see Simplifying on-premises deployment of servicing stack updates.

Known issues in this update

Symptoms

Microsoft has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications might be unable to launch Microsoft Office applications or open documents after installing the Windows updates released on or after June 9, 2026. This issue affects certain third-party applications that use OLE automation to interact with Microsoft Office applications. In some cases, the Office application or document might fail to open without displaying an error message.

Affected Microsoft Office applications might include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other Microsoft Office applications when launched from within the affected third-party application.

Reports indicate that this issue may affect applications such as CCH Engagement, Workpaper Manager, dental software (such as Dentrix and Softdent), and Zotero; other similar applications might also be impacted.

Third-party information disclaimer

The third-party products listed are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, about the performance or reliability of these products.

Workaround

A resolution is in progress and will be included in a future Windows update. More information will be shared when it becomes available.

To work around this issue, open the application or document directly instead of launching it from the affected third-party application.

For organizations, a workaround is available for affected devices. To apply this workaround in your organization and mitigate the issue, please contact Microsoft Support for business.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note: The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.
For information about how to apply Dynamic Update packages to existing Windows images, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

Install this update

Why is the MCT ISO .8653 and not .8655?
Beats me. In a YT video a reviewer also talks about this way to get your system to 26200.6855. But apparently it doesn't. The .ISO created by MCT is also leaner; 6,25Gb while the official v2 version is 7,76Gb. OK the official one let you choose Home/Pro etc. The MCT is fixed to the Windows version you already have. (While it also contains Home/Pro etc. Install let not you change that version) Amazingly the number of packages drops down from 174 down to 139.

Interrogating the install.esd before the new install also reveals the build version is also 8653;

What I find remarkable is that the number of 1742 base version drops also from 74 to 61. (In both updates the number of 1742 and the version build packages are the same.) During all updates of 25H2 that number was still the same. During new installs and In-Place-Installments. Despite a new install it does not partitions your disk but reuses it. At the end it also contains an windows.old directory with no other directory's then your C:\Users\<Username> Deleted this one because I already have a backup of the whole disk.

I did a clean install using the MCT created install USB yesterday, and it did indeed install 26200.8653.
As soon as I connected to Windows update it grabbed Security Update (KB5094126) (26200.8655).
Dism RestoreHealth still ran incredibly slow in the 60-70% range, otherwise all seems to be well.

Stock clocked, over cooled, and unmolested for a rock solid, whisper quiet, Wifey approved user experience.
I also created a bootable flash drive using the MCT yesterday and it also grabbed .8653 and afterwards the June update was installed. It's a change of behavior since if the bootable flash drive was created Thursday after Patch Tuesday or after, it already included the update. This time at least the window that shows the system steps when installing is still there. You know, something like this: I've been performing monthly clean installs of Windows 11 since 25H2 came out and I know this very well.
- Bootable flash drive created before Patch Tuesday: When installing Windows the window shown above appears and downloads and installs the monthly update along with drivers and tells you the %, when the system is going to reboot etc.
- Bootable flash drive create the Thursday after Patch Tuesday: When installing Windows It already includes the monthly update and when you connect to the internet the window doesn't show up and you have to let the system grab the drivers. It could be on the window where you're prompted to name your device or on some other step along the way. The process runs in the background and you have no idea when it's finished - in my case I had to listen to my laptop fans to get a general idea when it was done...ridiculous

Problem is this time, like I said before, the June monthly update is still being downloaded and installed. And to make matters worse, some features are missing from my device. I've tried multiple clean installs and some features and settings are missing, like for example, lock screen widgets. There isn't even an option to enable/disable them. It's like they were removed from Windows. Maybe the code is there and it's going to be triggered in the future bla bla bla but what's the point? Prior to creating a flash drive on Friday, on Tuesday I took the same steps and it installed everything well. So basically I created a flash drive that should already have the update embedded and instead it also downloads it and installs it while at the same time installing a light version of Windows. How does this make any sense?
Not to mention the bug when deleting stuff. You delete a folder named ''A'' and the recycle bin asks you if you want to permanently delete a folder named '&4tyhgfuh'
Baffling stuff from MS once again. Why am I even surprised...

Dism RestoreHealth still ran incredibly slow in the 60-70% range, otherwise all seems to be well.

Find it strange that after a new install of 26200.8653 it updates to 26200.8655 with KB5094126. Are sure you did a clean install? (No personal files, etc. are left behind) Looks more like a In-Place-Installment. After my new install I searched for updates many times over the past 3 days and it came up empty. Ik can't image that there is an update path between 8653 and 8655. The only difference is 2 versions. This morning only a 2026-05 .NET Framework Preview-update (KB5092427) appeared. Winver still reports 26200.8653.

Other people (see the comments) also confirms that the MCT downloads 26200.8653 and sticks to it.

It seems that 8653 had an issue that needed fixing. They did that with 8655. What was that issue? See: MCT latest build 26200.8653 has the same problem as previous 26200.8457, any fix coming for this nasty problem? - Microsoft Q&A The problem only occurs if you tried an In-Place-Installment. I did not see any issues of this kind during my new install. It seems that with MCT MS forgot to install the fix into 8653 so that it became 8655. Used this MCT tool just now to see what it would download now.... It's still 8653..... Created on 06-06-2026.

Yes it was a clean install. I booted to a freshly created media creation tool USB, deleted all partitions, selected to install to the unformatted space, and chose to keep nothing.

Not sure why yours won't update from 53 to 55. But mine did so immediately with no issue. It was actually quite irritating to me as it kind of defeated the purpose of doing a clean install when the first thing it does is an update.

Can't explain it either then. The only difference I can think of is the language. Your's is English (United States) mine is Dutch.
Found also something odd inside the .ISO which I can't explain. Normally you might think that by downloading the .ISO all files have the same datestamp.
Doing a SHA256 on both downloaded .ISO's; they differ. Why? If you download each time the same .ISO they should be the same. (All language related directory's and files do have the same datestamp of the .ISO. So language is not the issue here as it seems so far.....)

Nearly all files have the same datestamp... (06-06-2026) Except 3 files inside the C:\Windows\sources directory; boot.wim, install.esd and ws.dat. Their datestamp (13-06-2026) are from the time the .ISO was downloaded and changes all the time. It looks like those are placed inside the .ISO on the fly.

I downloaded just now an other copy and generated a hash files of those 3 files and compared them to the one I had downloaded on 13-06-2026. It seems that there are minor changes inside the .ISO and inside those 3 files resulting in a changing content. The File-Hash function only looks at it's content and not at the files name or datestamp. File size are still the same but if 1 Byte has been changed it will result in a other SHA256 checksum. (I always check if available to check the downloads if the download has failed or it has been tempered with) I leave it at that. I am not going through a second time a new install to check if that version will update itself to 8655... I am happy that that /RestoreHealth functionality has returned to normal instead of trying to download stuff around 63,3%-70%.

An overview. They all differ expect for a copy of the last .ISO. As expected the checksum remains the same.

Note: Inside ws.dat the InstanceId changes. Might have to do with a changing session ID given by MS during the download.

Just saying. The clue might be in the way we are doing a clean install. I just mounted the .ISO and started setup.exe. After the installation I had an Windows.old directory like a In-Place-Installment leaves behind. You installed the .ISO on an USB stick, deleted the partitions and ran the setup from there. Did you saw an Windows.old directory afterwards? I suspect; No. Can't be there after you cleared all partitions. Windows just makes new ones.
Still does not explain the different behavior. Me; stuck at 8653 and you advanced to 8655. Ah well with the upcoming 26200.8728 we will both be sitting on that new build. God knows what kind of bugs are being introduced with this build............ :weary:

Why do you use this command? Doesn't DISM use Windows update to download corrupted files?
I read about on another forum and it fixed my system after other DISM commands had failed.
Other replies have stated the DISM Commands with the Online switch uses Windows Update.
As I understand you can use other Switches in DISM specifying other sources.

Why is the MCT ISO .8653 and not .8655?
It doesn't matter, given that it has still a bug in boot.wim. 🤬🤷‍♂️
I had to make 26200.8655 from uup-dump to get one that still works. ️🤞

If you hit "Repair my PC" it reboots to the main OS instead of opening the recovery menus. 🤬🤷‍♂️

All recent insider ISO files have the same bug. 🤣🤬🤷‍♂️
OK. Tried something else if an other way has issues also (I have 26200.8653) Holding Shift while restarting the computer. The PC starts in the WinRE environment. (as expected) Hitting "Repair my PC" gives me now a separate option window with several selections to choose from. Have never seen this before. I don't want to execute a In-Place-Installment at this moment. System is working fine as it is. 1st Question; Keep my files or do a clean install, 2nd Question; From where? From the cloud or local? Stopped here..... Anybody saw this change earlier? Did not saw this in the past.

Deleting a file from the Recycle Bin displays an internal filename in the dialog

KB5094126
2026-06-09
Last updated: 2026-06-18, 12:03 PT
Opened: 2026-06-18, 12:03 PT

When permanently deleting a single item from the Recycle Bin, the confirmation dialog displays the internal Recycle Bin filename (for example, $Rxxxxx.ext) instead of the original filename. The Recycle Bin itself correctly displays the original filename, and restoring the item also restores it using the original filename.

This issue occurs after installing the Windows security update released on June 9, 2026 (KB5094126).

Workaround: A workaround is available for affected devices. To apply this workaround in your organization and mitigate the issue, please contact Microsoft’s Support for business.

Next steps: We are working to release a resolution in a future Windows update and will provide more information when it is available.

Affected platforms:
  • Client: Windows 11, version 26H1; Windows 11, version 25H2; Windows 11, version 24H2; Windows 11, version 23H2; Windows 10, version 22H2; Windows 10, version 21H2
  • Server: Windows Server 2025; Windows Server 2022; Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016; Windows Server 2012 R2; Windows Server 2012

The highlighted part in Red suggests business customers are getting a KIR (Known Issue Rollback).

If they follow the previous KIR for the Duplicate SID issue, their fix will will be in the form of a Group Policy which changes a Feature ID setting. Basically they're disabling the new feature like how ViveTool works.

Until someone leaks the KIR, it's not known which ID(s) need to be reversed. Or everyone waits for the June 2026 Preview in another week.
