Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with the latest Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) version 5.141 (KB890830) via Windows Update.
The installation process is extremely slow and seems to be taking forever to complete. It gets stuck at a certain percentage for ages.
The previous version of the tool worked completely fine and installed without any issues, so this performance drop seems specific to version 5.141.
Is anyone else experiencing this massive delay with the 5.141 update? Is it safe to force restart the Windows Update service, or should I just leave it running overnight to let it finish?
Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the reply. I have a question: if I download it from the page you provided, can I install it "over" the current setup while Windows Update is actively trying to install it? I already have other update files downloaded and just waiting to be installed. Please help.

Had the same problem with the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) version 5.141 (KB890830) update.
It stalled around 10%, then slowly proceeded at about 2-3 % per hour after that. This prevented the rest of last Tuesdays updates from installing.
Ther was no sign of any activity on Task Manager.
I let it run overnight, and the next morning found the system had rebooted around 07:00, and all updates were installed.
DISM and SFC showed no errors, and everything showed 'Installed' in Windows Update History.
My machine is running normally.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

Thank you for the answer and advice. I want to share a strange situation. Yesterday, when I turned on my PC and opened Windows Update, the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool version 5.141 (KB890830) update started installing from the exact percentage where it had previously left off. Surprisingly, it finished installing after 30 minutes. The other pending updates were also installed. After the restarts (there were 3), everything was fine with no errors. However, I noticed something strange in the update history: only 3 updates from May 2026 were visible (successfully completed). The one this post is about (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool version 5.141 (KB890830)) was missing. Have you also experienced this case?

For me it's in Windows Update > Update History > Other Updates, near the bottom of the Update History page.
All the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool updates are in this section.

It also appears in Reliability Monitor twice for some reason:
