Am I the only one who is tired of hearing anything about the Royal Familly. We are the closets to World War 3 since the end of World War 2 and the main stream media is more interested about things such as the Royal Family then someone being close to pushing the button. With all respect to those in the UK, at this point there are more important things we need to worry about.

I'm not sure if anybody in the UK (or in many other places too for that matter) can influence in any way whatsoever who pushes the button. However the UK IS in a position to manage events such as the coronation -- and I'm sure for once broadcasting something that many people were able to celebrate instead of incessant doom and gloom was a welcome change and relief - and I'm sure it was better than the other option they had on offer --local elections !!!

As for whether a democratically elected head of state is or is not better than a monarchy -- not always sure if that's a better option either -- judging by the shenanigans indulged by Donald Trump.

However I'll bet Donald Trump couldn't hold a heavy sword upright weighing around 4 kg for two hours as that 40 year old woman (Penny Mordant) did in Westminster Abbey yesterday. I doubt if I could have done that even in my 20's and at peak of fitness.

@jimbo45 , I don't know what Donald Trump has to do with with my post but I think your missing my point. I'm not saying the Royal Family isn't important and news worthy . I'm talking about how the news media gets obsessed with certain celebrities' and that's all they want to talk about.

It's the same also with TV personalities and often musicians of whose music I'm not enamoured of or haven't even heard of.

Try being in the UK when the Glastonbury festival is on -- hours of hideous stuff (at least to me) on a load of their standard terrestial channels. Fortunately most people these days have Netflix, Amazon Prime or whatever even if I dare say it - torrents - so there's no reason to watch stuff you don't like or don't want to.

In any case I'd rather watch a 1,000 year old ceremony - even if slightly modified for C21 (remember that's about half as long as the papacy has been going - that's around 2,000 years old) than endless pictures of yet more mass shootings in the USA where changing the Gun Laws meets with about as much resisiance in the USA as the UK with their absurd "socialized" health system (NHS) where around 18% (incredible is it not) of their entire population is on waiting lists of up to 18 months to get basic non life threatening surgery such as basic hip replacements which could be done almost anywhere cheaply and safely by a private specialized facility.

Might be interesting to get Anti Gun control supporters from the USA to chat with the NHS supporters in the UK -- both totally entrenched and won't encompass any change.

Not having a go at you but I rather liked the service myself although we don't need or want a monarchy in Iceland !!! Getting Independence from Denmark was good enough !!

The Donald Trump bit was to those in the UK advocating ditching their monarchy in favour of an elected head of state which also doesn't always go well. They did try it once before with Oliver Cromwell after Charles I was beheaded on Jan 30 1649 and and that experiment ended in a total disaster too. That lasted from 1649 until 1660. A mere 11 years in over 1100 but I'm sure the Brits won't want to try that again. At least King Charles III won't suffer the same fate as one of his predecessors. !!

That is exactly what I'm saying. It's not about the actual people, it's about how obsessed the news media gets and keeps talking about them over and over again.

There were far less viewers of the King's coronation than the Queen's funeral

You cannot compare the 2 events. One is media hype The other is about respect.

There is a valid comparison in that the King gets far less respect (and viewers) than the late Queen.

I'm just a commoner from the Colonies, but I feel this thread should go on lock down. It's developing a "trolling" air to it. Just IMO.

I'm sure this thread wasn't intended to be about any comparison between KCIII and the late queen EII who had around 70 years to develop into a brilliant stateswoman respected world wide and who grew up in a hugely different world than today. Also comparing a Funeral with a Coronation is totally ludicrous. As another has posted previously a funeral is about respect.

With all these events --if you don't like them just don't watch them. There's plenty of alternative choices on TV / Radio / Streaming platforms etc -- and one can even read a book (yes they still exist) or apply the latest Win 11 updates. !!

The coronation and funeral are both royal events, the viewer counts can be meaningfully compared. In spite of the media hype for the coronation, the viewer count for the coronation is far less than the funeral.

Yeah, the late queen has developed respect, the present king at 74 ... far less ... it is an issue for the UK and to a lesser extent, the rest of the world

you are not UK, so really dont understand, nobody outside UK understands the UK. OUR Royal Family brings in billions a year in tourism for a start. In a survey done in the 70s I think, more Americans wanted the RF back again, than didn't. When asked by it said brings stability in a corrupt system. Some things dont change. Royal land is provided to the people and there is no chance of developers stealing, or bribing anyone to use it. We have castles, parks, wild natural land etc, all which can be visited by people from the world. I was looking at a Flight Radar 24 collection of planes landing, a lot in USA. You all live in squares in square houses and the roads are all straight. How boring is that?

It's not about the Royal Family per say. It's about how the news media picks certain people, families or subjects and talks it until it becomes sickening. I only mentioned the Royal Family because at the moment that's all the news media wants to talk about. No disrespect intended.

Winuser, understood. I actually agree 100%. Get a sniff of a story, and they hang onto to. Take The King & Queen of LalaLand. They claimed to have had a 'almost catastophic 2 hour car chase with the paparazzi' - And this is in Manhattan !!!!!! It was proved to be a total fabrication by the NYPD and the Mayor. In fact they are to be prosecuted for driving on the sidewalk in order to pass the queueing traffic. They are total liars, both of them. But the next day, (today) on Euro new channels, its still be reported as fact, vultures eating all they can out of a total non event.

Yes, some of the media sources over here are having a field day with that one. I wish the media would understand when enough is enough and go on to other subjects.
