Solved Kioxia KBG40ZNS512G NVMe - How to find the latest firmware version?

I have a Dell laptop, done the usual of searching for my laptop on their website but when I check the firmware version in Device Manager it has a completely different set of numbers and doesn't look anything like the one I have.

I have driver version: 10.0.26100.7019

Just had a look at the info CrystalDiskInfo shows and it has Firmware: 10410106

Edit: It looks like I have the latest version. I have matched the firmware version above (10410106) to the latest version Dell have, unless there is a later version that Dell aren't showing?

The SSD probably has OEM Firmware which you can only get from Dell.
The SSD Management app should tell you that, I don't know whether the one referenced is correct.

On my Micron drive the Management App specifically says it cannot be updated from Micron you have to go to the Laptop manufacturer for Firmware.

You can try looking at the manufacturers updating App or Windows updates, though the latter deletes the older history.
Firmware updates might come via either route, seems to vary with manufacturers.

The KBG40ZNS512G is a Kioxia (previously Toshiba) BG4 series Client SSD.


A client SSD is one that's exclusively supplied to OEMs. As such, it's the OEM's responsibility to distribute the firmware updates. Dell aren't the only OEM to use Kioxia client SSDs, you'll find them in Lenovo PCs too.

The KIOXIA SSD Utility Management Software only supports Retail SSDs, for Client SSD's you have to go to the OEM. Both Dell and Lenovo get the firmware updates supplied to them by Kioxia, then pass then on to their users through their normal support channels. It's actually the same firmware, whichever OEM you get it from.

Your firmware 10410106 is the latest for your BG4, I have it on mine too.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.
