Solved Laptop Battery not charging well

I had a problem with my Acer SF-114-34 battery. It seemed to be stuck at 68%. I tried powering down, disconnecting the charger, pressing the power button and the battery reset pinhole button for ten seconds. It did not help. So I uninstalled the MS battery drivers and rebooted This made a slight improvement; battery charge was increasing, but only 3% per hour. On a whim, I unplugged the clover-leaf plug from the charger and plugged it back in. The charge leapt from 74% to 100%.

I hope this helps someone else.

I had battery issues on my Acer too and ended up swapping the battery, but I’ll keep this in mind, might be useful next time. Thanks for sharing.

That makes me think you have an intermittent connection somewhere.

To me, it must be a software issue. I theorise that there is some handshake between the OS and the charger. How else can you explain the charge jumping from 74% to 100%?

The act that changed your apparent charge state drastically was reconnecting the power lead and that's what made me think of an intermittent connection.

I suggest you find out what a PowerCfg battery report says are the

Full charge capacity

Design capacity

Use this syntax with a path to a convenient folder to which you have access.
PowerCfg /batteryreport /output "C:\Users\%UserName%\Desktop\BatteryReport.html" /Duration 1
I have no reason to expect it to reveal any particularly low ratio of FCC/DC but poor heath is something that can make drastic changes to charge state meters.

I have just fitted (yesterday actually) a new battery to my Dell. A battery report from Windows showed full charge capacity and design capacity but the charge would fall ever quicker from 50% onward and take just 10 minutes to go from 30% to empty. On charge it would stick at somewhere around 65 to 75% and then seem to jump to fully charged.

The percentage remaining indication updates much more frequently when viewed in settings vs the taskbar icon.

I think the battery is defective and I suggest you ask for a refund.

Its my writing that is misleading... it was the original battery that was behaving like that and not the new one. I didn't make that clear at all re reading it.

That means the battery has calibrated the 100% to it's current capacity. It is now a lower capacity than the original design capacity as bought.

That would indicate charging was enough to raise the temperature of the battery enough to slow/stop the charge.

On my Laptop the system software indicates the battery temperature which gets very high with "fast/rapid charge" enough for me to switch off "fast" charge.
