Laptop Refuses to Wake Up From Sleep. But Identical Unit does Wake up.

I bought 2 of these identical Yoga 7i Laptops, 13th gen. Both new.
The first one woke up from sleep just fine before I returned it because of a broken space bar. The 2nd unit I have will not. The power button LED blinks slowly during sleep mode as it should. Its telling you its in sleep mode.
But if you press power button, or the keyboard, opening the lid, plugging in power cord.... it will NOT wake up from sleep. I have to force shutdown with long press on power.

I've researched this for 3 days now trying lots of things. Any ideas?
-Bios has been updated.
-Reset all power plan settings
-All windows updates installed.
-All driver updates
-Driver scan/update directly from Lenovos software
-Keyboard is enabled to wake this device in device manager
-turned fast start up OFF

I dont think modernstandby has anything to do with it because the other unit worked fine from sleep, but Im attaching a screenshot of my Modern standby results incase it does.

According to that powercfg report this particular device does not use modern standby but S3 sleep.
turned fast start up OFF
Also, not according to that report. Fast startup and hibernate are on. I suggest you turn off hibernate (which will also turn off fast startup) and use the S3 sleep by using power options and setting sleep after to your desired time.

I turned fast startup back on after it did not work.

So the first laptop I had, had hibernate enabled and was still able to put the laptop to sleep and wake it just fine.

I also want to be able to keep hibernate as an option.

I will try disabling hibernate just to test if it fixes the sleep issue though. But then I lose hibernate.

If turning off windows fast startup does not help then run some windows troubleshooters.

msdt.exe -id PowerDiagnostic
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

If available, click view detailed information > post images or share links

These Dell and HP links may have useful steps to troubleshoot the Lenovo computers.

Attached is the view detailed info, its too long for a screenshot so I saved as PDF.

Then second image is the results of the hardware troubleshooter, says to restart to apply some driver updates even though windows and lenovo said I had no updates including optional

I tried to turn off hibernate. For that tutorial you basically just set it to zero minutes and then it turns off hibernate apparently. But yet I was still able to go into hibernate mode though and wake up from hibernate just fine with everything still saved, so I'm not sure that even turned off hibernate.

But anyways, the issue about sleep did not resolve. When I got into Sleep mode I still get the flashing and blinking light on my power button indicating it's in sleep mode but nothing will wake it up except a forced shutdown

2) Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

3) Run Gather additional dump files > post a share link

4) Reinstall the BIOS:

1) Lenovos Hardware Diagnostic scan results, everything passed except stuff I dont have (RAID, Ethernet, HDD). Except it said no fan detected? idk but i doubt that has anything to do with my sleep problem. Fan is running fine.

2) Tune up Plus results: Tuneup.log

3) Gather Additional Dump Files tool results: LiveKernel Reports 2024-01-27 (18-41-12).zip

4) It would not let me reinstall bio because its the same version,

yeah, I did the Default reset preset thing already in BIOS. It did not seem like much of a reset to me, it's just changing back to default settings in the bios I think. No effect ☹️

Lenovo support is a nightmare to exercise the warranty. Months without a laptop.

1) I could put the bios file on a USB formated as fat32. BOOT from it and try force installing it. Or is that risky? or maybe doesn't matter? Idk 🤔

2) reset windows (reinstall all files and drivers)

3) reset the Embedded controller. Not. Sure if that can be done or even means anything, but I do seem to find posts about it online where people said they were able to reset their controller if that's what they really were doing here --> English Community-Lenovo Community

See if Lenovo has telephone warranty support.

Check to see if these Lenovo links can or cannot be applied to this computer.

thanks. that tool says it's not compatible with my laptop.

I tried doing a system restore today to undo some of the windows updates, try it. now I can't even login, get BSOD " bad system config info" error.
then none of the reset options work: check it out:

lol. Unbelievable 😅

Could bitLocker have any relation to this? Like it's encrypting the drive so it can't communicate with the IO when it's sleep mode or something? Idk

It shouldn't because In the previous laptop I had BitLocker enabled and sleep worked fine. I also tried suspending BitLocker but it's not technically decrypted, it's just temporary.

Okay I undid the system restore and am back to yesterday's status. Phew. Lol

1 other thing, since this seems to be related the the ACPI, can reinstalling the Acpi firmware\driver be done? Is there a particular driver I should uninstall then reinstall manually?

I couldn't find anything for it I'm not sure if that's a built-in windows thing or if it's provided by the manufacturer, or Intel handles that?

New laptops should not have BSOD.

They have preinstalled OEM operating systems, drivers, BIOS, hardware, etc.

The computer manufacturer is responsible for all of the above at the time of the sale.

Please contact Lenovo for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).
