Laptop wont recognize my microphone

Having a second sound card is not a bad idea. You can then use Virtual DJ or similar application and play music with one card while listening to the next song on the other, like a real DJ. Back in the analog TV days I had two TV tuners and a discreet sound card. So I could capture two different channels at the same time and the onboard sound card was recording the audio out of one tuner and the discreet sound card was recording the audio of the other tuner. All that on a Pentium 4 CPU running Windows XP. To connect the antenna on both TV tuners I used a Y splitter. If I lowered application priority I could even render one older capture at the same time without the computer lagging. I would just set the video editing application at very low priority so not to drain the CPU and RAM resources. RAM was a humble 3GB

My headphones work great on everything but my laptop. When I plug them in, my PC only detects the output capabilities, and won't detect the microphone. When I go to my sound settings the headphones appear under output but nothing new appears in the "input" section.

This happens with every headphone & earbud set that I plug in. I've checked my Device Manager, The recording tab in Sound Control Panel. Both do not display my microphone, while at the same time displaying that I indeed have headphones plugged in. I've tried updating both my audio and recording driver. I've turned on all my microphone permissions.

every guide says to go Settings > Sound > Scroll to Input, and select my microphone. but there is no new microphone

My laptop is an Acer Aspire A515-45 Model No. N18Q13
Its got a 64-bit OP & x64-based processor, if that's important

please please please don't tell me to go Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > Trun on the microphone. This is the first thing I did, everything is on.

Thanks so much
Okay, I have been suffering the same problem almost exactly as described and found a solution. (FOR HOURS, i made this forum account just to save others from the same fate)

First open realtek aduio console(u might need to download it). then advanced settings > change head phone to 'headphone with mic'. I myself somehow didn't have this option So i had to go RE-install audio driver from realtek(https://www.lifewire.com/realtek-hd-audio-drivers-26192040) and then go back to realtek audio console to do the above mentioned steps. MY MIC WORKS Now THANK GAWD

if you lucky u prob just have to change advanced settinngs in realtek audio
