    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

was it worth it.... i have to say no on that one... But it had to be done.. it was those "must-do" errands even if i rather watch that video with paint drying.
So now its done.. Now i just have to wait on Friday ( it's when it slowly starts to turn around again and i dont hate life more then "win11Home out of the box" and can do something others then just watching TV). 😅 *LOL* 😅

What is the boot time if you time Fast Boot VS Normal boot?

i have heard you only save 1 or 2 seconds and you get a cleaner machine with Normal Boot instead on Fast Boot that is semi hibernation.. i heard.

I switched from 95 when 98SE came.. then i stuck to that one until Win2000 SP1 (i think) Then i ran that until XP SP2 came out

I skipped 98SE and Win2000. After XP I skipped Vista too (luckily, by all accounts). My next OS was Win7. I avoided Win8 like the plague! Win7 of course got the free upgrade to Win10, and from there to Win 11.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

I think you had liked 2000 :-) Yeah i skipped Vista too and went to win7.. But i think i didn't go 7 until 2009 or 2010.. i also hated win8.. i do have one OEM Lenovo desktop with 8.1 and i have a laptop with 8.1.. i kept the OEM-recovery partition on the desktop and installed Linux.. on the laptop i dualboot win 8.1 and Linux as i needed a supported windows OS and win7 was EOL.. win10 and 11 you already know where i stand. *LOL* 🤣

No, I never had much use for 2000. When I switched careers to IT support it was all Windows 3.11 of the desktops and NT 3.5 on the servers. '95 was launched while I was in IT support, I even got tickets to go to the London launch event. Been there - got the T-shirt (literally) :D

My employers sent me on training courses and by the time I left IT support I was a 'Microsoft Certified Professional Systems Engineer' with 10 MCP certificates to my name, including 'Implementing & Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise' and 'Implementing and Supporting Microsoft® Exchange Server 5.5'.

2000 Server was just starting to take off as I retired, so I didn't get to see much of it. Our corporate clients were by nature a cautious lot, and hung onto their NT4 servers for as long as possible ;)

So you see, MS OS's are deeply engrained in my soul - I'll never escape :ROFLMAO:
It's done well for me though, Windows 11 is still Windows NT at its core.

I have both Win2000 server and 2000 workstation and i used them both back then.. i later upgraded that server to 2003 and that one still works with 14 10k RPM scsi 1GB drives (darn i have forgotten the size of them).. i have it as a reminder that a server can be louder then a Jet. *LOL* 😅

I have an NT 4.0 Server in my computer room upstairs, so that I could practice on it at home. Well I say 'server' - the OS is, at least. The hardware was cobbled together from odds and ends and even in its day was a low spec desktop tower PC. Unlike the '95 I showed you working a while back, the server no longer boots :(

a server can be a phone.. as its just an device handing a service to other devices. 🤓 to talk in nerdish
But yeah servers is often hardware too when talking on that level. :-)
Okay.. if the server no longer boots.. is it the PSU or just the drive that dont want to play nice?

It's the disks. I don't hear them spin up any more....

By the way, while we've been chatting I've just run eight full upgrades across three machines. It's been a busy night for all the Insider builds, they all got new upgrades.....

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

It might be a simple solution.. the 5V or 12V might be to low, or just bad contact :-) (optimism as Dr. Phlox says in Star trek enterprise) ;-)

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

It has a tape drive for NTBackup to use. That makes all its normal 'power up' noises, so power supplies look good.
