I saw yet again another thread about OneDrive messing up stuff for people.
and i sooooooo wanted to post my opinion, but it wont help OP....... But i still want to write it somewhere so here it goes...
If you are a person that dont like Windows out of the box and dont lay your trust blindly to Microsoft, then you have to treat Windows as your enemy.
Windows was good in the past, but it is just crap nowadays when it comes to Home and Pro.
If they pushed as bad updates to Enterprise LTSC and IoT as they do to Home and Pro, the whole business world would lynch Microsoft at the stock-market and sue them in court ten times over.
One scenario.. a update break boot so you have to enter the bitlocker recovery key.. MS servers that has the MS-accounts is overloaded or have gone down by another reason.
So you blindly trusted that the bitlocker key on your MS account should unlock your computer.. and as Murphy saying.. it will only happen when you really-really need to use the computer.
Another scenario.. you sit at your computer during the hours that is not set as active hours.. You start to work on the computer and then you leave the computer for half an hour.. and you comeback and the screen is saying.. Installing updates 5% do not restart the computer.. Now you will have to wait around an hour before you can use the computer again.
and more scenarios.. Onedrive that is starting to sync your files without you have said yes to it. You try to stop it and you mess up the files.. and when you dont know how to fix it, it can take up to several days before a friendly soul on a forum can help you.
(I can write about 20-30 scenarios, but the post gets to long then)
So modern windows has to be treated as your enemy.
The first thing you do when you install windows.. pull the plug to internet and install a local account, debloat(uninstall) windows from all unwanted things you never intend to use.. spend an hour or four tweaking the system REG, GPO and Scheduler to block the system from doing unwanted things as reinstall every single software you just spend over an hour to uninstall.
Updates should be installed by the user when the user have time for downtime. So it should not be up to the computer to decide when to install updates.. if i need my computer 24/7 for three months, then windows should not stop that work by installing updates as it has been more then 7 days since you pressed "Pause" updates
Windows was a good OperatingSystem.. now it is just your nemesis, that will try to do everything it can to annoy you, disrupt you and to prevent you from fast using your computer as it will do an update or something else like broken updates that will take time to fix, when you just want to go online gaming or checking your email.
So my advice is to take back the control... its you using the computer on your terms, it is NOT the computer that allows you to use it when it feels for it.
