Good morning Borg. Good luck with your UPS. So far I've bought APC units and battery swaps are quite straight forward. We see this more and more, make you device so the customer can't repair. Think I saw something coming out of the European Union that they were thinking of a law that cell phone batteries be replaceable by owners. Great idea but it will likely reduce their waterproofing abilities. I'd buy, not often that I drop in toilet.

Yeah, they are making it more difficult for consumers to replace things like batteries. It's a throw away society.

For a long time a new Canon printer cost you around $65. That came with full ink carts. Well, the replacement costs for the ink carts was $27 each (At Staples). So for a few bucks more, you could buy a whole new printer when the carts ran out.

They don't do that anymore, I had to get a new printer because I needed a fax at home & I occasionally do print stuff, like my Wife's drug list. The one I had was over 12 yrs old. This time the carts that came with it were "starter carts." Not full carts, but like a 1/4 of a way filled if that. I think you can print maybe 20 or 30 pages then you have to buy new ones.

The EU has better regulations IMHO as to what is allowed on software & access to tech. In the USA a lot of things are bricked when it comes to consumer access.

There was recently a lawsuit filed against John Deere, maker of tractors. Turns out if something went wrong with them on the tech end, they had to call a specialist to come out & fix it. And of course they charged lots of $$$$$$. The lawsuit says the owners should have access to certain areas/tech so they can fix it themselves.

Yeah and it start to move faster now when Trump acts out against EU.. Microsoft has already lost millions of users as some countries governments decided to secure their IT with going alternative to Teams, Onedrive, and even Windows.
It will be interesting to see how Microsoft, Google, Apple will try to save the day with adapting to EU regulation.

Okay.. i have a feeling your Mini is glad you dont take it to the track... as it do wear on the cars quite a lot to drive them that hard you do on a track.
It is fun to drive on the track.. but darn... it eats tires and fuel.

That was a bummer you couldn't convince the committee for that... But perhaps to next year you can make a good pitch for it.
