OK, just called them & no, the whole system isn't disabled, just the one in the seat.

OK, so the airbag in my drivers seat facing the door has a short in it. I was like WTF, there's an airbag there? They told me there's also airbags in the back rest. The tech told me because of the constant getting in/out is the reason those airbags got bad after a while, the constant pressure of in/out

They'll have to take out & tear apart the seat, that'll cost me $740

My 2010 VW Polo has four airbags as standard: front airbags for the driver and passenger, and front seat-mounted side impact airbags.
As an optional extra it could have been supplied with two more, head protection for front and rear passengers....

Afternoon Bree.

I think they have no choice but to put all those in considering cars aren't as tough as they used to be.

When getting my car fixed at a place when a squirrel knocked a statue onto the car, the guy there told me that nowadays they take the carbon out of the steel. The carbon is what made the steel strong. but when you take it out, that makes the car lighter, meaning it gets better gas milage. So that's the reason they do that. Now I know why I have 14 freaking airbags in the car.

I'm thinking with all the med bills we have lately, I might have to wait a while. Not that I like the idea of one of them not working maybe, but there's plenty of other air bags all around me. So I'll have to see.

As usual I had a couple sales guys come up to me, saying how incredibly low the milage was on my car & how they could get me a "really good deal" if I wanted to trade it in. Told then thank you but no thanks for now.

I had one of those vehicles where the steering wheel air bag would shoot shrapnel out, it was recall and eventually BNW replaced it but it was concerning as my car was so old.

Pleasantly cooler here today (well mid 20's °C feels cool, relatively speaking).

Ever been in a car when the airbag goes off? I have.

I was trying to make slow progress downhill on an icy road - unfortunately I made faster progress than I planned when the wheels lost grip.
There was a bend at the bottom, and a brick wall ahead of me. The airbag went off when I hit it. :doh:

Sorry about the car.. it really sucks.. It dont look to damaged considering it was a brick wall that is like hitting a mountain or an full grown oak tree.
I have not been in a car where airbags goes off.. but a friend has and he said its LOUD as h*@!#

Well. the front left corner took the impact at about 45°. The crumple zones did their job, but the engine compartment was pushed sideways a bit. That would probable have been enough to write off this 7 year old VW Polo, but the rear impact damage made sure it was an insurance write-off.

Rear impact? Yes, about half an hour later another car had the same slippery experience - except it wasn't the wall it hit, my car was in the way.

darn.. that is sad to hear.. yeah when the frame has become twisted, then its almost impossible to make the car really steady on the road again. So i understand it became a write-off

That was my 2nd of three VW Polo's...

1st - 1 year old when I bought it, traded it in at 9 years old with 120,000 miles on the clock.
2nd - 2 years old when I bought it, written off 5 years later at 78,000 miles.
3rd - bought new in 2010, still going strong at 115,000 miles.

(have I ever told you that I like the Polo?)
