Good morning / afternoon folks.

Another humid day ahead . Not too warm though.

OK, so I am beyond mad at how the hospital handled this.

Summarizing all this:

She gets admitted for having the runs for 3 weeks. They try to clear her out for 4 days for a colonoscopy, but her movements are still cloudy, which would indicate a blockage somewhere. I call her gastro doc after 3 days of her taking prep, she says they need to do a scan. I pass this info on to the nurse who says she'll tell the doc. They finally do the procedure a day later, they find she has colitis. Yesterday she finally has a movement. The doc comes in, tells me according to the X ray they took, there is blockage, but they're sending her home with suppositories & a liquid to clear the blockage. Because they can't justify to Medicare a reason to keep her there.

So basically we're back to square 1, she still has a problem, the runs have gone away (for now), but they didn't address the blockage issue that was obvious & now they're discharging her without trying to fix that problem.

And the suppositories they sent needed prior auth, something the hosp should have addressed according to the pharmacist. I could only get 10 for now because those were $26, if I had gotten all 60 (30 day supply) that would have run $195. Called the hosp with the docs name & meds, they said they would get back with me....they never did.

They told me in the hosp they had to give her that med for 10 days, but for some reason she needs to have them given to her for a month now.

Great medical system we have. I know, it's something at least, but the bill is not going to be fun to see, and they didn't finish the job of getting her back to normal.
Good Morning Mr and Mrs Borg :-) :coffee: :coffee:

wow, i cant find words for it... its really a big mess with the medical system over there.
as it is the US and you can sue people and company's to the right and left (that we can't do over here) Can't they be sued for not doing their job and charging for a job they haven't done?
Its a real mess when they send someone home like that and not be 100% sure that those meds will actually to 100% solve it.

They sent her home with a blockage? Unbelievable! That should be malpractice. Prayers for your wife and you Borg. Back in Win 10 Forum some called you Dr. Borg. You probably know more than these clowns.🙏🙏🙏
Morning Josey,

Thank you. Yes, those were the words of the doc, they "can't justify keeping her there." How the hell can you NOT justify that considering it's obviously serious if they gave her prep for 4 days & it didn't clear out? I'm sure anyone that's been through getting the prep knows that stuff is strong & cleans you out in one shot. It didn't for her....after 4 days of drinking it, so...something is obviously wrong.

Yeah, I was in shock when the doc told me what was going on followed by "we're discharging her this afternoon."

I don't know if I have any course of action because there are soooo many damn rules & regulations that the docs & hospitals have to follow in order for the insurance/medicare to pay them. If they can't justify certain criteria set up by the companies, then they have no recourse but to discharge because they won't get paid.

But if you dont have insurance but a truckload of money.. and you say.. money is no option, make her well... i bet they would do it then.... Darn system

Yeah, if you pay out of pocket they'll keep her, but that's going to be expansive.

here's how it works here: The hospitals have an agreement with medicare/insurance. They negotiate a price they will settle for & the hospital accepts that.

Now, if you are paying them without insurance, you will be paying the full price the hospital normally charges.

For example, on one of her bills, the hosp charged $1,283 for the services. The insurance only had to pay them $769 & there was an adjustment of $11. Our payment due was $124.

I see this on the medicare statements all the time, the hosp, will bill for like $2,000, the medicare approved amount is about 1/3 of that, they take that & then you have to cover 20%.

So I was listening to this financial show on the radio a while back & this guy was admitted to the hosp without ins & his bills were astronomical. He asked what he could do.

The shows host told him to hire a lawyer to negotiate the bill. He said insurances do it & there is no reason the hosp won't accept a negotiation on the price if he gets a good lawyer that knows about medical laws.

So much bureaucracy & red tape it just makes your head spin.

Over here they have a totally different system.. you dont need insurance as everyone poor or rich have the same healthcare. when your bills reaches $145(ruffly as i didn't check the dollar rate) within one year the high-cost protection steps in and you get free care for the rest of the year started from the date of the first bill.
The downside with this is.. if you want more then you get, you cant just say you get a million to make me well.. then i have to go to another country to be able to make them work harder with flashing the money.

But you really should have lived in sweden.

Morning Ken.

Thank you. Yeah, sometimes it just makes you shake your head & go WTF?

Yeah, I can see why no one envies it with all the experience we've had with it lately. At least it's something, but that's about it.

Hopefully the liquid they told me to give her 3X a day helps clear her, but I have to wonder. I mean if the prep they give to clean you out didn't do it after 4 days, then what's this going to do?

People around here say this hosp isn't that good & a few of them go to another hosp. I think that's what we're doing next time, the next one is 1 1/2 hrs away, but I think it might be a better option.
