So here is my speed trial backup for my laptop (approx 35 GB NVME source drive to (internal) NVME) to nearest 5 seconds

1) Easeus Todo Pro - 3 minutes 10 seconds

2) Aomei Backupper Pro - 2 mins 45 seconds

3)Macrium Reflect Home V8.0 - 2 minutes 50 seconds

So far not a lot of difference - Easeus being a bit slower.

but now

4) Macrium Reflect V8.1 (not yet official) - 1 minute 40 seconds

I tested with MS's own FFU which came in at 1 min 50 seconds which I always knew was fastest around!

Conclusion V8.1 rocks - cannot wait till official.

Tested it - I restored image to a vhd and created boot entry - worked fine.

I have had zero problems with The Paid version of v 8.0.7280 , I have done many backups and restores and it is quit faster to backup less than 2 minutes.

My experience isn that V8.1 is considerably faster on differentials and incrementals but about the same on full backups. That's probably a write speed restriction on the destination disk.

Where the paid version of MR really shines is on the restore. A feature called Rapid Delta Restore effectively does an incremental backup in reverse and if you are restoring from a recent backup we are talking about a restore taking just a few minutes.

How do you get this version? I have paid version of 8.0.7175 and it keeps saying no updates. The Free version is 8.0.7279, as far as I know.

I also have 8.1.7280. I installed it when it was available, it was literally pulled from the servers less than 10 minutes later

It's actually a typo, the version Josey refers to is v8.1.7280. This was the first release of v8.1, but was withdrawn almost immediately. A few users reported their PC would no longer boot after installing it. I got it on one of my machines before it was withdrawn, for me it works well.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.     UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Yes no boot problems with 8.1 here, but I do have the other issue mentioned on this thread - using the Safe removal on a USB SSD/HDD says that the disk is in use so can't be safely removed.

The Free version isn't available as an offline installer either - the only version is 8.0.7175

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

Based on previous performance of the Reflect Team, I would expect that without any "Insider" whispers LOL.
