    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

My suggestion on starting a sticky thread 'Latest Aomei Backupper updates' is not 100% altruistic, BTW. I am about to drop File History and Aomei's strong file features may be a suitable replacement. If someone takes the lead, I would contribute ...

Why would this be so concerning? It won't stop working. You will get security updates till 2024. It's just like when they dropped full support for V7 in prep for V8. There's a V9 around the corner somewhere and this is a natural progression. Too much hooplah about an impending Armageddon.

We do not know but they never did this on previous versions. The tone implies there will not be a free version for V9 after reading it several times.

I wonder if there is a different agenda - I do not think this is just about forcing people to buy it in future, but I have a horrible suspicion, this is a prelude to a change to Acronis style lease version i.e. more focus on the corporate market where the big money is.

Home as we know it would be rebadged as professional users?

IT depts like leasing as they just include it as part of annual OPEX budget. Buying licences (CAPEX) periodically always require justification - what's wrong with old one. Has it been tested blah blah blah.

I have not seen any evidence to suggest Acronis have lost significant revenue by changing payment model.

It certainly makes more sense to freeze/ditch free version if they go down the lease route.

Anyway, as made clear, it would only might only affect future versions but it is hard to see what would change that much?

Because this amazing software is now turning into abandoned software for so many users who have been using the free version.

No, it's not like when they "dropped full support for V7 in prep for V8". You could download V8 as it had a free version as well and simply updated to it. That was natural progression.

But there is nothing "natural" about this. It is simply business.

As for "it won't stop working", yes it will. It eventually will, as it depends on so many things. Just to name a few: BItLocker could change, there could be new filesystems, a new partition table, or just new hardware in general on which Macrium v8 free will not work without updates.

Yes this is an extremely huge deal as this was a #1 free software, a must-have for everyone and now they are ending it. This software is famous for bringing data security to the masses, even to the average Joe.

And you are calling it a non-issue.

I still use V7 on some installations. Works fine. I don't have any needs that require anything more than a good reliable backup system.

The main fix is for the missing notifications when backups start, and the missing icon in the taskbar system tray while they're running.

@CountMike you did fix the big full screen picture in post # 128 but the tiny thumbnail under attachments below which was probably the original upload one can still see your info by clicking on the tiny thumbnail.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

In light of Reflect Free having received a new patch over the weekend the EOL support policy for Free has been revised slightly this morning. It no longer specifies any particular build number, just that v8 Free will be retired.

Macrium Reflect Free v8.0 is the last version to receive feature, compatibility or bug fix updates.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
