Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates


Sorry guys.
I cannot agree that releasing a software product or an update on a Friday is a good move. Unless they work seven days a week.

Why take those risks?

I run weekly full. 10 retained, daily differential 15 retained, and ad hoc incrementals 7 retained so I can go back two full weeks daily and 10 weeks weekly. I've only ever needed to go back that far once.

I run full only once a week and retain two, they are about 260GB now and disk space is eaten fat. I also don't risk much with no irreplaceable stuff on system disk. Important stuff I back up manually on external disks.

Ah, my full backups are only 43GB. Just about all of my data are on other partitions and most of my programs are portable and reside on another partition. Data and portable programs are backed up separately using FreeFileSync.

I put games on 500GB NVMe system disk now, that's why it takes more space.

It was probably considered such a problem that it was fixed by someone on overtime or something! Not every company works just Monday-Friday

Probably, like me when I was in IT, their contract of employment included "out of hours" working as required.

Most imaging companies take weeks or months to fix bugs.

It is not as if it is super critical to fix a minor Reflect bug instantly.

People are exaggerating the importance of the icon bug. It had no impact on its backup other than if you hid it, you could not see it again until it had finished it.

Any sensible person has made regular backups of OS including previous version of Reflect anyway and keeps iso of previous version of Reflect, so it is easy to rewind.

In any case, these guys always do a great job at fixing bugs promptly and they rose to occasion with their usual prompt service.

It was more than an icon bug. it didn't show any signs of working (auto backups) not even in Task Manager and labeled older backups with error in reading, (.mrimg.read_error.). All that put reliability under question mark.

I had them in all 3 MR instances, 2 on W11 and one in W10 laptop.

While it is great to see that the notificatons/taskbar bug has been fixed promptly, no one has yet mentioned the one other bug fix:

Dark Theme
We've fixed an issue with the Dark Theme drawing in the Rescue Media Builder advanced properties.

Here is is what has been fixed, before and after:

Now if that seems a trivial fix to you, then you've never used viBoot where this same dark theme issue was present on some of the drop-down menus too.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

I think there ought to be a sticky thread for Aomei Backupper too, with a prominent user as its custodian, perhaps @barman58 or @The-Hive or @cereberus or ... whoever hears the calling ...
