I no longer get the creation of a shortcut on my desktop but everytime Edge checks for updates I get a number of UAC (4 to 5) windows opening and a blank terminal window that I cannot close. I did a reset restore of windows 11 with no change. ??

Finally traced down the problem of terminal windows always opening. In terminal - settings - advanced - changed Profile termination behaviour to 'Never close automatically' the next time a terminal opened it remained open and I saw jabswitch.exe was terminating with an error. Uninstalled java and no more unwanted pop-ups. Hope this info is useful to others.
