Power saving typically means that you will save ~2W per day, but you will loose some performance and reliability.

{rtots640x64sta.inf driver for old Realtek LAN adapters updated from 10.66 to 10.68 with the Sept. 2023 release}

note - I sometimes go for the "not support power saving" version since I use an old PC with an old Realtek LAN adapter and to avoid certain power management problems with the lan adapter

You sure? My current driver is dated 2022-07-21. Card in question is a Realtek RTL8125B.

the latest Realtek PCIe LAN drivers from the Realtek web site should work for RTL8125B as it does say "RTL8125 / RTL8125B(G)" (meaning for both RTL8125B & RTL8125BG); I no longer "hotlink" or link directly to their recent drivers (the recent March 2024 releases) since Realtek no longer allows them.

A bit OT, but I wanted to know how performance is on the card you have and if it has ever given you any problems? My previous desktop had a Realtek Ethernet card/controller and I never had any issues/problems. Now I want to swap my Killer controller which is capped at 1Gbps for a 2.5Gbps card/controller which has that same Realtek RTL8125B chip.

Unless your internet connection is over 1Gbps you won't notice any difference from 1Gbps to 2.5Gbps. However, If you use a computer as media server (you stream videos to other computers and devices), it makes sense to upgrade especially if watching 4K content.

That's exactly the reason I want to upgrade my card. I was offered an increase from my previous 500Mbps plan to 1.5Gbps from my ISP at the same price (loyal customer deal) the other day and I accepted. I was already getting as much as 800Mbps, but now with my new plan I want to take advantage of those 1.5Gbps since most have reported (and proven with Speedtest.net results) getting as much as 1.9Gbps on the same plan.

How much more expensive is to upgrade to 10Gbps LAN? It would be more future-proof to upgrade from 1Gbps to 10Gbps, you might want to consider that. Of course to get the maximum of your new internet speed you must connect directly to the router. Any hub or switch must be at least 2.5Gbps compliant.

Depends... a 2.5G card is cheap, anywhere from $25-50. The one I was looking at goes for $34 on Amazon and has pretty good reviews. I was thinking of going for a 10G card, they usually cost anywhere from $80 to $300+... a lot depends on the manufacturer. A chip can be the same across various cards, but I think price depends on brand name and quality of product. The more expensive cards are usually the ones with the same brand as the chip (Intel, etc).

It is double the price, but what if you buy the 2.5Gbps card and a few months later you need to buy the 10Gbps one? It might not be a bad idea to buy the 10Gbps one directly.
