I actually tried this, I put it in a folder and created a shortcut for my start menu. When I try to invoke it from the shortcut, it ignores it, but if I actually run the .EXE directly, it executes fine. Any idea what that's about?
Never tried it the way you mentioned before because either I run it manually from the folder anywhere under C:\Program Files or I have it run as a startup task which is done by clicking on the Run at Startup in settings which will create another .exe file (this has been since some 7.x) version I believe. You might want to ask on their forum since the author replies very fast. I only know how it works from this thread:

I just tried the 8.27.-5750 by first running the HWInfo64.exe after extracting to desktop which works fine and then right clicked on HWInfo64.exe and create a shortcut and it also works fine. So not sure.

I have no idea why it didn't work, I've done that same process with countless other stand-alone applications and they work fine. I tried downloading a new version and doing the same thing, and I got the same result! There must be some obscure thing about launching this app that is a problem on my specific installation. I've never seen this behavior before, so I'm at a loss even where to look.

The oddity continues! It appears that it's somehow based on the location of the link, or perhaps how it was placed there. I copied the link to my desktop from the system START menu, and it runs fine using that shortcut. I then moved that shortcut to my toolbar for SystemTrayMenu, and it no longer works.

Now, here's the weird part. If I move that shortcut back to the desktop, it starts working again! There's something about this specific application and the SystemTrayMenu that don't get along. I have dozens of other shortcuts on the SystemTrayMenu created the same way, all of them work as expected.

At least I know it's somehow associated with how SystemTrayMenu launches shortcuts, odd that that's the only application affected.

You should really ask the HWInfo author on their forums since they know more about the product than I do and will fix it so it works if it's a bug. Your other apps might not need UI Access which is explained in the link I provided earlier.
