It is he installer version they are detecting. Has nothing to do with the program version.

Did you get this update by just checking for updates? I have checked about six times this morning (EST), and there's been no sign of 5.0. I don't want to use the MBSetup.exe file, because my installation is not on C:, and I want to keep it that way.

@Porthos and anyone else who's interested,

I don't like this one da__ed bit. They've removed the simplicity and replaced it with complexity. They've turned the Dashbooard into a marketing machine for VPN (on sale now at your nearest MBAM store). They've removed the version info from the bubble. And the right-click menu is now a mess. Left is old; right is new:

Version info removed in new.

Non-removable Premium Plus ad.

BIG VPN ad.

@Wisewiz It is not an ad but it share the same dashboard with plus.
If you buy the plus it is unlocked.
This was also a way to honor the lifetime license, without giving the vpn.

I disagree. It is an ad for Premium Plus and the MWB VPN.

I already pay for Premium on three devices. I do not want Premium Plus, and I do not want the Malwarebytes VPN.

I find upselling (pushing the user to buy a better product at a higher cost) obnoxious. [Look it up if you need to. It's a great word.]

This new version's GUI is a giant step in the wrong direction for Malwarebytes. It looks more like a big marketing device than a system protector.

I understand advertising on a free product. Premium subscribers who already pay a, ummm, PREMIUM for the use of the product shouldn't have to put up with upselling ads.

Side note: This site (Eleven Forum) is populated with lots of ads that keep the site afloat and make our ad-free interactions here possible. Members don't see the ads. And we don't have to pay a fee (yet) to become members. I, for one, would be perfectly willing to pay a membership fee for use of the forum. I'm sure that's not a popular position, but it's mine. There, I've said it.

Although I agree and wish there was a way to hide the VPN section, This is basically the same and has been the same ever since premium existed.

I also agree Malwarebytes is driven by the marketing department like any other company.

I have bigger fish to fry. I have 100's of lifetime licenses tied to my account as I am a reseller from before they went subscription. The GUI has no way to activate with an ID and key and those are the ones I have. Also, no way to see the active key in the new version.

I'm sorry to disagree with you, my friend, but I've just re-examined every single page and panel of the 4.6.9 Premium GUI, and I find no ads whatsoever for anything, much less TWO things: a VPN and Premium Plus. None. That's what Premium subscribers should be entitled to. Sure, a notification ad now and then to remind license holders that there are additional features they can buy, but those are easy to ignore if you're not interested in the features. And they wouldn't be in-your-face every time you right-clicked the icon or opened the main program window.

MBAM devs: Advertise away on free editions. Be my guest. Have a ball. But leave the paid members of the community alone.
