Login and Internal Link issues ..... why ?

About a week ago, a number of my regularly used websites suddenly started to hang when I tried to login. In some cases, leaving it 15-20 minutes got me in but then all of the internal links hung in the same way.

I had no problem with accessing these (mainstream) sites previously. Sites like BBC work perfectly as do many other sites. The problematic sites are accesible perfectly and work perfectly on my iphone.

I have tried ...........

- talking to support teams for these sites and they say no issues reported their end
- cleared cache multiple times via my browser (Chrome) and via CCleaner with no change
- tried Bing and Firefox but same issue with both
- ran full system scan on Bitdefender with no change
- disabled Bitdender with no change
- ran System Restore with no effect albeit the restore probably doesn't pre-date the time it started to go wrong
- ran ChkDisk with no effect
- no obvious clues in Event Viewer
- removed recent Windows Security Update reported by some as causing "login issues" but had no effect

It is acting as though a rogue cache file is being called but I can't see how it would have survived the various moves I've made.

I'm desperately trying to avoid a full system restore but I've run out of ideas so if anybody can help then I would be very, very grateful !

Only suggestion I have is to run @FreeBooter .bat file to reset network components (run it as administrator)
Here we strongly suggest one makes regular system mages. The beauty of making images is when unexplainable stuff happens one can be back in business in 10 minutes.

Find Your Ancestors & Family History - Genealogy & Ancestry is one example

I'm still in desperate need of help with this bizarre issue. My internet access and browsing is absolutely fine except for a small number of mainstream sites. Each of these problematic sites are sites that I have used very regularly in the past but which now hang every time I try to access them.

These include sites like Find Your Ancestors & Family History - Genealogy & Ancestry and Search the List – Find listed buildings, monuments, battlefields and more | Historic England. It seems to be highly likely that these sites are connecting to some sort of rogue cache files but how do I remove these cache files ? I have used CCleaner several times as well as Chrome tools as well as Bitdefender but none seem to have any effect.

Any help really appreciated here.

Have you tried ipcongfig /flushdns?

Try temporarily switching your DNS to something else, e.g. Google’s 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or CloudFlare’s 1.1.1.1.

Just switched to 8.8.8.8 ..... had no effect.

I have just switched on my VPN and everything worked fine. I then turned off the VPN and everything still works fine ...... what on earth does that prove ?!!!!
