if i right click i get nothing. but the normal right click options like open in new page inspect save as copy to etc, i do not get any print options.

ok that will bring up the printer but then i lose the 2 side setting. i'm going to get the printer cable and connect it up and see if that makes a difference for installing the program and drivers. i'm thinking that they do not install completely over wifi. the cable is at another location. thanks

helmut i don't know of other apps that was the main question. i do not use open office i use notepad and not notepad+ just plain win10 notepad that carried over to win11.

so if you or anyone knows of other print apps send them along. thanks

What happens if you click Other Print Options bottom right? Also are you sure this is the OFFICIAL Brother driver and not one from Windows Update? It makes a HUGE difference in available features and print quality.

i went to brother and downloaded there program 3 times and it is still the same. i have the brother icon down by the clock for ordering items and i do get the program as antspants shows but i do not get the same looking page in the setup on that program. i used wifi to install the a program and maybe it is not installing i went into settings and picked the printer and went thru all the sections in win11 printer section and it still is not allowing me to pick pages and i have to reset 2 sided every time. if i do ctrl and p i get the same thing. i'm wondering if it has to have the cable plugged into the pc to install all the features? i have been doing it over wifi. i do not have the cable here at this time.

i even went back to #7#8 pages i think that was the ones antspants showed and it still did not work. if i go into the app and manually pick 2 sided and tap ok it will stay for a few prints and then goes back to one side. i went thru the printer settings on the printer and have 2 sided picked so it sure seems that should go. it is possible i may have some issues with the printer. it is a used unit and maybe i will need to go into the settings and just reset them and start over. i do not have to print with picking out pages often but 2 sided most of the time. anyway i asked the brother team about this and i will see what they have to say. i just may need that cable. thanks

maybe the default notepad in win11 is not a good place to try and print from. i tried the notepad+ but that seemed to have so much coding so that it was useless to me. maybe what i need is a notepad like was in win10. that notepad worked good. then it seems win11 changed it so now it auto saves and if i manually save it creates a new txt and even txt folder. i do notice that the win11 notepad puts all the open txt's in the same open folder. so it may be that the printer app is working but it does not like win11 notepad.

A print is a print, shouldn’t matter where the files are or what you’re printing through.

yes i did i went into the printer settings and did a factory reset. and it took a bit to get the darn thing to be able to print again. the thing wanted to connect to 3 other printers in the building. i went in and uninstalled the printer the program and drivers. in the settings i turned off the printer and let windows pick the print drivers and then let windows reinstall the printer and drivers by itself and still it will not let me pick pages. how ever this time it did show the brother printer app if i hit the more button, but still it did not show what you posted for what the app looked like in your post. it was the very same.

i now have it set for double sided. when i reset it for some reason before i could double side print i had to open the back door and close it as it came up with back door was open notice.

i believe it is the notepad app in win11. i recall the notepad in win10 you could open a note and save the note in separate tabs.windows but in win11 i have one window open and all the notes are in that window and they save auto but it is hard to find them in the documents section. for s&g i went into one of the txt in that window and changed and added to it and i could not find where it was modified for yesterday's date. but if i actually went in and save it it created a new txt. i found lots of the same name for that doc with different save dates. with the old win10 notepad you had to actually save it and then all i ever found was that 1 txt and the date i saved it was correct. so i sure would like to get win10 notepad back. so i would like to get the old win10 notepad back.

I meant actually reset the printer itself to defaults, for what it’s worth, could be pointless.

So you got it working. Right.

I don’t think you’re using Notepad (With Tabs) correctly.
You can have multiple notepad tabs, each their own note.
You need to save a Tab (Notepad page) manually to a destination of your choosing, otherwise they will reopen as last left before you close notepad.

If you don’t like that feature, you can turn it off.

ok i switched over to the old notepad from a line posted above and it took some time to get the correct notes in a new folder. it seems the win11 notepad places the notes all over the place. i had to go into each one and add xxx and save and then find the new saved note. anyway i tried to print from that new notepad and it still seems to not have pages available. i will play around with it more using the new notepad and see if i can get it to print pages. as an example i do my blood pressure and i have 5 pages of them for the last 5 years. the dr. wants to see them for a history. anyway when i went to print it i had not pg selection. and i can page down 5 times, and it prints 5 pg. so i should be seeing a pg selection. i guess i can pick putting 4 pages on a single pg but then they get hard to read. today i will go to the old house and get the printer cable and try to reinstall the program with the printer actually plugged into the pc and see if that makes a difference. i will let you know how that works.

ok i got it to show the pages in a print preview but i have to select that everytime. and i picked 1 pg and still it printed 5 pages but now it at least does 2 sides so i used 3 pages. so it still is not working good. so maybe now i will look for a bett printer program and ditch brothers program.

it seems that everytime i print i have to go into the printer settings and check off print preview.
here is what i get see the SShots notice i have 1 pg picked 1 print in que and the doc i'm printing
and now i have to open and close the back printer door. so now i will open and close the printer door and see if i get 1 pg or 3 pg's

i had a brother printer that was in our house fire. i believe i will clean that printer and bring it here and see if that works better. it did do 2 sided and i could pick pg's so maybe this printer just can't do that. that other printer is a bit different model. i will also bring the printer cable back and maybe this printer just needs to be hard wired during the software and driver install. if that works then i will not bother with the other printer. we did not bring it here as then it was full of attic insulation and may have had smoke smell, so i just put it in the back garage and left it. it stayed dry but i never did more with it. we just got this one used. but that printer did pages and 2 sided and it was easy to set up. it took longer to make a cup of coffee than to set that printer up. the only thing that one did was forget the wifi so i hard wired it. i can't hardwire this one as the way we have to locate it the wire is in the way.

yes that is a start. i guess as a backup plan i can always just make a pne pg doc and print it and then just delete that one. and like i said today i will go to our burned house and i will get the other printer out and clean it off and bring a pc and connect them start the gen and power them up and see if that one will print and hope it has not lost the settings from being off for 9 months. if it works then i will just start using that one and use this one here as a backup. they both use the same ink so this one can set on a shelf. i will let you all know how that goes. now the backup pc is doing updates. so i know the pc will be working before i test the one that was in the fire... just so you know the printer did not see fire it saw smoke insulation from the collapsed ceiling and whatever was in the water they put on the fire. i got that out a few days after the fire and put it in the back garage. so it may still be a working printer.

The settings, if powered off at the wall for that long (Which it obviously is) would be lucky to still be there. Nothing you can’t fix, Bob, as you’ve set it up before.
I thought they may have fixed your damage by now. Are you in a motel? (Still?)

no we have been in an apt now since dec 2024. it took forever for the 1st company to get even the prints done. and then they gave us 2 years to build. so we fired them and got a new company in may. then the city issues started. so now they have the foundation done and will be setting the house next week. then the utility's need to be connected, they are all there but for power. that needs to be ran again as it moved. the gas water and sewer are all stubbed out and waiting. it has been a trip. maybe by sept we will be back in the new house and then get the garage done. that will not be a big issue, it can take until next year if needed. thanks

i have the spare pc and the backup stick and mouse. to take with me. i may just clean it and bring it back and mess with it her also. we will see. thanks

well i got the printer connected to the cable and still it does the same thing. so is there another printer program that may work better than the brother program?

i guess i give up and i will just make a new doc and copy what i need into that and then print that out. this is stupid that in the notepad you can't select any pages and print just the pages you need. and you have to go into the app every single time and set up 2 sides.
