Lost "Edit in Notepad" menu item when I set the right-click menu to show all menu items

I find the Edit in Notepad particularly useful for viewing PS1 scripts and some other non txt files. How can I restore that menu item?

I don't mind losing the top bar with the Rename, Delete, etc. choices.

They're all there for me..., either menu...

I haven't lost mine either...

On my Windows 10 computer, I have a registry file that adds that context menu.
1) This applies to Windows 10, I don't know about Windows 11.
2) It adds that context menu to any, and all files in general, when you right click them. (Not folders though).
If you want me to paste what that reg file says, mention it in a reply.

"Edit in Notepad" is provided by the new winapp (AI enabled) version of notepad. Presumably you've tried reinstalling it?

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to use "Edit in Notepad" for. If it's for having a quick look at files such as .ps1 without starting Powershell ISE, or other syntax highlighting editor, then you could set the PerceivedType of .ps1 files, and other files that you like to look at to text. Look at the entry for .txt (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt in regedit) and add that value to .ps1 and other file types.

If you do this, those files will be shown in the explorer preview window like text files. Turn on the preview function in explorer with Alt-P. Also files which don't have an edit verb will get one in "more options" which on my machines opens them in traditional notepad. This works via settings under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\text

I find that the New Notepad attaches itself to pretty much any protocol it can handle..., Legacy Notepad, on the other hand, you'll probably have to add it.
