Lost My E Drive

Is your "E Drive" a Seagate 4TB USB SSD? There seems to be a history of failures for this particular drive. Personal experience. Another forum member (forgot the user name) has documented a technique to adapt to a SATA to USB connection which does work for some drives.
I have had several of the Seagate 2 TB USB Drives and two of the 4TB Drives. Both 4 TB drives failed.

No, it is a Western Digital My Passport 4 TB SSD connected via USB. I have a 2 TB Seagate inside my box that I bought way back in the 2000s that is still working just Jim Dandy, but another that may have croaked. It is in an external enclosure, so I'm not sure if it is the enclosure interface that died or the Seagate drive. It also is from the 2000s.

I'm afraid the Hasleo software has recovery limitations as well. It will only restore 2 GBs of data. Sigh. 🤣😂🤔🙄🤨

Which external drives models do you have? I checked online and can't find any Seagate 4TB USB SSDs. I can find Seagate 4TB USB HDDs.. Did you put drives in enclosures you bought or did your drives have their own enclosures?

I have a number of external Seagate and Western Digital USB HDDs. Most are 3.5" but one is 2.5".

I only have two external USB SSDs:
  • Western Digital Elements SE 2TB NVME/USB SSD
  • Samsung T7 Shield 4TB NVME/USB SSD
I also have several external enclosures:
  • 2.5"/3.5" SATA HDDs and 2.5" SATA SSDs
  • M.2 SATA/NVME SSDs
I have various HDDs ane SSDs I can put in these.

I have a Seagate 2 TB hard drive in an external case but either the drive croaked or the external case stopped working. It is connected via a PCIE cable to a connector card in one of the motherboard slots. I should figure out if the drive is still good and if so mount it internally. These Seagate 2 TB 7200 rpm drives are very long lasting indeed! Yes, my Nvidia 3600 Ti is a Gigabyte Eagle OC 2 fan model which I chose because it was small enough to fit in my case, which the 3 fan models won't do.

I still don't understand what kind of external drive you have. External drives are connected using an USB cable to the computer.

Here are some of my external drives:

1 External Drives.webp
Here are some of my external drive enclosures that I have used with spare drives I have:

2 External Enclosures.webp
I don't understand what kind of PCIe connector card you have. The only PCIe card for a drive I have used is for a M.2 NVME SSD.

3 Internal M.2 SSDs.webp

Again there is no Nvidia 3600 Ti GPU. Based on your description you must have a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Ti EAGLE OC 8G (rev. 2.0). I have an ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3060 Ti V2 GAMING OC GPU.

I assume you had not password-protected the drive at any point prior to the experiments? Because that encrypts the data.

I still don't understand what kind of external drive you have. External drives are connected using an USB cable to the computer.

Here are some of my external drives:

Here are some of my external drive enclosures that I have used with spare drives I have:

I don't understand what kind of PCIe connector card you have. The only PCIe card for a drive I have used is for a M.2 NVME SSD.

Again there is no Nvidia 3600 Ti GPU. Based on your description you must have a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Ti EAGLE OC 8G (rev. 2.0). I have an ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3060 Ti V2 GAMING OC GPU.
It looks like this, though it is an older model from about 5 years ago. 1755285630840.webp

The PCI cable looks like this: 1755285551947.webp

My other external drive, the Seagate 2 TB, is in a quite old AZIO external case connected to an old (2000s) add in card with an access input that sticks out the back of the case via an old external PCI cable (like above) and then to one of the slots on my Asus X570 motherboard . It ran just as fast as the internal Seagate because they are the same models. Yes, if you read my previous post I stated that my Nvidia 3600 Ti is a Gigabyte Eagle OC.

I assume you had not password-protected the drive at any point prior to the experiments? Because that encrypts the data.
No, no passwords or encryption. After spending 20 hours using recovery software I aborted that and just formatted the drive, reassigned its original E drive letter and set the back up programs to deliver their information to it. That was a much faster procedure after all was said and done, LOL!

That 2nd picture looks like no ext drive cable I've ever seen... it looks exactly like a DisplayPort monitor cable.

My Western Digital My Passport 4 TB is a spinning hard drive
Aged, and life extinct (or heading thereto). I would suspect the Linux experience was unfortunately co-incidental, thus confusing the issue for troubleshooting

If not already suggested/done, test in another computer.
