This is going to be a relatively sad post, and I hope I don't ruin my keyboard with all the tears that is about to fall....again.
Monday, December 8th, at 1:37pm, I lost my mother. She was battling Stage 4 Colon cancer for the past 2 years. She had been doing great on her chemo treatments. August 27th, something terrible happened. She was involved in a hit & run by a semi-truck driver on I-40 here in Arkansas. He tried to merge but ended up sending Mom down into the ditch and she hit head on into a tree. I'm honestly shocked she lived through that. She suffered 7 or 8 broken ribs. Ever since then, she slowly declined. She basically stopped eating and drinking, and ended up getting hospitalized 3 or 4 times with severe UTI's. She was never able to recover and her cancer doctor said there was nothing more he could do, has the cancer had spread rapidly since she was not able to receive chemo treatments since before the wreck. She was put on outpatient hospice (i lived with her), and I took care of her as best as I could. Hospice nurses and aides showed up daily. I was able to administer pain meds to her whenever she was in pain.
The morning of December 8th, I noticed that her breathing was declining more since the night before. She was only taking a breath every 8-10 seconds. I knew it was just a matter of time. My biggest fear was that I was going to go check on her and she would be gone. I honestly think she knew that. Around 1:30pm, her nurse and aid showed up. They were checking her vitals, and everything. At 1:37pm, they were just about to adjust her body, and that was it. She took one last breath. I immediately knew she had passed away. Obituary
I haven't been on here much in the past weeks or months because I've been spending time with her and taking care of her. I'm not looking for attention or anything like that. Maybe some advice on how to cope, without falling into a deep depression, or anything. I'm sure a lot of you on here has lost a parent, so you know what i'm going through. I sure could use the prayers, as well as my brother and other family members. Thanks for letting me get all of this out!
