M.2 SSD installation question.

I have a Samsung EVO 970 SSD, and I’m having a hard time installing it. My problem is with the tiny screw that holds the SSD in place. I have a hand tremor and I can put it in... so

And advice on what I can do. I’m getting this in on Monday. I hope the clip will help me.

I have a tremor in my hands, especially the left. Didn't have trouble with the M.2 only because of the Q Latch screw Asus provides on their boards. What I do hate is working with the motherboard screws so I devised a way to hold the screw against the screwdriver with the index finger of the hand holding the screwdriver; then holding the screwdriver in such a way that the handle is held in place against the wrist and forearm of the hand holding the screwdriver; then bringing in the left hand to further help hold the screw in place and then just slowly turning in quarter turns until they are in.

Hope this helps somewhat as I sympathize.

I'm starting to shake some, too. I can't speak for the little screwdriver that comes with that kit, but I bought this one and it's screwdriver had a magnetic pull strong enough that I didn't have any trouble either with assembly or insertion. More than likely all these companies include cheap screwdrivers that come from the same place. You'll do fine. If you fumble for 3 tries, walk away and come back to it. The more anxious you are the harder it will be. Strong light is the key.

I was proud of myself. I didn't lose a single one of the mini screws.....and I always lose screws.

I'm using precision screwdriver for such tasks. Think it would help you. Don't have hands tremor problems, but you can use both hands to set the screw

My issue has been with me my entire life but lately it's been worse. There are times during the day I don't have the issue as much and I can try it then or I can wait till this comes in.. it's a clip.

Good advice! Sometimes walking away and doing some slow deep breaths from the belly helps calm the nerves!

I had one of those plastic ring things on an asus h310 I had for a while. They are called nvme anchors. Easier than a screw but you still need a bit of accuracy to get the plastic pin into the hole. The nvme can wobble a bit as it isn't held as firmly as a screw, but it is ok.

I think they are made of nylon.

I didnt know asus were still using them for the b550. The motherboard needs the correct size hole for the anchor foot to go through.

Unfortunately they cant be used on just any motherboard. I dont think anybody likes the tiny screws.

I suppose an alternative is a pcie >nvme adapter card but they still have to be slotted into the pcie slot. Might be slightly easier depending how much space there is for large hands.

If it looks like this there is no hole for the anchor foot

I have the screw removed and the part I'm getting is made for Asus MB's. I should just have to pop in the clip, insert the SSD and clip it shut.

I had difficulty installing the screw, but after installing the nvme, the SSD that was in the front slots on board 5 and 6 did not work, I had to change them to the side slots on board 1 to 4, is this normal?
now everything is working but it's as if nvme had disconnected these two slots on the motherboard.

The M.2 will disable the SATA drives.

I hope you are right. The mobo I had the hole for the anchor foot is exactly the same as the hole the arrow is pointing to

Depending on the length of the nvme, the anchor foot goes into either the hole labelled 2242 or the hole labelled 2260 or the hole labelled 2280

Something like this is a bit easier than fiddling with the little m2 screws inside the machine. I dont know what pcie gen the slots run at on the op mobo.

Attach the nvme disk to the adapter first ( there is a screw but is not too difficult because it isnt inside the machine yet ) .

Then you need to get the adapter into the slot and there is a screw to attach the bracket to the chassis but it isnt so tiny and is easier to get at
