Just got the first notice on my desktop. (8.1.7336); getting it even as we speak.

If you disabled the ImageID in Macrium, it stays disabled after the 8.1 update.

Don't forget to rebuild your Rescue Media, especially if you have the Windows 10 PE version.

Got it, installed, seems ok. I upgraded from 8.1 early version from the other week.
I did a restart, the pc started to boot then restarted again. It's been fine since.
Maybe the Macrium driver updating?

Changed Block Tracker
This release fixes a problem with the previous release, v8.1.7280, that caused a BSoD for some users.
Imaging
When reading some Bitlocker volumes, Reflect could attempt to allocate an erroneously large block of memory. This has been resolved.
System Restore
Staging a system restore from Windows would sometimes fail to automatically reboot after the restore completed within the rescue environment. This has been resolved.
Macrium Image Guardian
During data de-duplication operations on Windows Server, the File Server Data Management Host (FSDMHOST.EXE) process would be blocked from opening Reflect image files. This has been resolved.
General
Lower than actual write speed values were shown in Disk Write Performance tool. This has been resolved.
Rescue Media
We've updated the Windows PE 10 download to version 2004.
viBoot
- We've added VirtualBox 7.0 support to viBoot.
- VirtualBox VMs sometimes would not show in viBoot GUI. This has been resolved.

Noticeable (some would say major) speed difference:

PC 1: Full main disk image: 8.0: 2:28; 8.1: 1:40; Single apps drive image: 8.0: :35; 8.1: :23.
PC 2: Full main disk image: 8.0: 2:19; 8.1: 1:43; Single apps drive image: 8.0: :33; 8.1: :24.

Wow!

Same.
I see almost a 40-45% speed increase.
And... the default compression is the same, and resulting file size the same.
So... nothing up their sleeve.

Interesting I don't see any improvement in full images but I do in differentials and Incrementals.

For some reason it takes longer for me to build the Rescue media on a USB stick than a DVD.

I only DO full images. And I checked... it's still doing full images.
I see the same speed increase on Windows 10 also.

I WAS on 8.0.6636 before I updated to 8.1, so there may have been past speed increases I missed, I dunno.
My Win10/11 backups were approx. 2:20 and now they are down to 1:17.

Brb, I'm gonna do a restore from the bootable media to see how that goes.

Whoa... the restore took about 35-40% "longer".
I used to restore in approx. 1:54, now it took 3.24.

I never use "Rapid Delta Restore" when restoring from the rescue media.

I'm gonna try it again.
I did change one thing... I disabled Reflect UI Watcher in Task Manager on the Startup tab.
I have it disabled on Win 11, but it was always enabled on Win 10.

Funny I haven't updated my winpe's in years and they still work on all my different builds
I have others made for each build to but just backups since one works on all
Then again I use winpe to create and restore images so never in the os.

Ok... got the same time as before 3:24.
This time I also tried Rapid Delta Restore. That only took 22 seconds.

I think there's something weird about this new Win 10 PE (2004).
I was on (1709) before.

Full disk image from 4:04 to 2:31 , so as stated, a significant improvement.

Mine went from 2:50 to 1:52 mm:ss

However, I tried exactly same backup in WinRe mode and time was 3:52 mm:ss - i.e twice as long!

Can one of you guys please checkout speed difference with WinPE?

I cannot see an obvious reason unless WinPE only uses 1 core or maybe a drive issue?

Having said that, I never use WinRE to make backups.

Ok, I'm fairly new to the paid version and just got prompted to install 8.1. What options are recommended or have bugs CBT, image guardian, viBoot. Are all three recommended for the average user.

I actually prefer the WinRE version of the recovery media because of its support for WiFi.

I've had that disabled in TM on both W11 and W10 (3 PCs) forever, and haven't seen any effect on anything.

You'll find an assortment of opinions here on that question. I choose not to install any of the three; so, of course, I don't use them and can't report on bugs.
