Solved Macrium reflect not finding drives.

Another 22H2 problem. If I do a restore with Macrium using a usb stick to boot from all the backups are shown as being on the C drive which means I cannot restore them, If I create a windows boot menu all is fine. I have tried different usb sticks to boot from, any one any clues?
For me 22H2 has just been riddled with little things not working or causing problems

If you mean this... that it "seems" like the Source and Destination are the same... just ignore that.
I've told Macrium about that... (they haven't done anything about it).

Note: I've tested this by the way... it really IS restoring from my backup on the G: (in my case), drive.

Note: If it doesn't see other drives in the locations shown by the BLUE boxes... then you DO have a problem.

I have reinstalled Macrium it is the same. it is only when I boot from a USB drive, if I boot from a windows boot menu it is fine.

Maybe remake the Macrium bootable rescue media while the external is hooked up??
I don't use external drives, so I'm at a bit of a loss there. ^^

Sometimes, drive letters are not always same when booting in Winpe mode as they are in Windows.

When you load Reflect from USB, click on the command line prompt and run

diskpart
list volume

and then you might see the drives you want. Sometimes you have to select the volume, and add/change a drive letter in Winpe operation.

If it is just a drive letter issue, then leave diskpart and use View Refresh and you should be able to see drives.

Another problem is if the drive is an NVME drive, requiring IRST drivers - you may need to add them to usb drive as well.

What cereberus noted is the key. Don't worry about the drive letters when booting from the flash drive. Drive letter enumeration can be completely different from what Windows will see.

On my desktop computer, I have NVMe drives as well as SATA SSDs and SATA spinning disks. My C: drive is an NVMe, but I boot from USB NVMe gets enumerated after SATA so my Windows drive actually shows up as something like G: (don't recall for sure which drive letter). For my systems that is absolutely fine.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I have done that, and I have even tried different USB rescue media sticks. from this machine. Thankfully it is only my old test machine and not this one. I now use a boot menu and it works fine, if I use a usb it sees the external drive files as all in C as if it cannot separate the External drive

Thanks, I am just a little worried that is says all the files are on the C drive, I do not want to overwrite the external drive with all the backups on if it thinks it is the C drive. I will coppy the images to a different drive and try what you both suggested, thanks.

@Ghot at last I am making progress, the usb stick is finding an old version of winload.efi from when the machine was in the dev channel, even though the partition has been deleted

I believe if you include the Intel IRST F6 driver into the restore media, it will solve it.

Nothing I tried worked, so I have reloaded the whole of windows 11 22H2, a lot of setting up but it works now :-):-)

Time and time again I've applied this reasoning. When all else fails reload the OS.
