Mail - where does it stay on server after downloading and sending

Deleting trash, junk/spam, sent items, and like one of my clients sending and receiving lots of photos. Backup aside saving those photos to the PC and not keeping the email for all time, would get the ISP off their back in 85% of cases.
Sure. If that’s not enough, Plan B.
But I think the idea of storing email for safe keeping into a PST file is appealing to some. I can go back to before 2000 in case of anything that arrises (I’ve been sued before)

IMAP is superior, without a doubt IF you’re using more than one device to check mail. Just my opinion.
PST is to me, piece of mind.

Having said all that I have, Sigurd has a domain that he is in control of, as he has said. I am unsure why Sigurd isn’t using his domain space rather than his ISP to setup his email account.
Perhaps it’s an email service and not a web service.
I am used to Web services, I have a 60GB server account to host my wife and my (and some friends) various web sites

As soon as I can I am going to change my Outlook mail account to POP. I can see the benefits of IMAP but since I am well and truly retired I only need to be able to access old and new email files on my personal computer at home! I have no need to access emails from anywhere else and can look after my own backups.
The information on this thread will help me do this and I have also found the thread referred to by Antspants where he helped (David?) make this switch. I am under no pressure from my ISP to do it soon They drew attention to our excessive use of email data on their server, which is currently free but they say they will need to start charging for stored email data over 500Mbytes because they are being charged more by their provider.
As I have said before, they are a small but great ISP, proving it once more by saying that as long as we don't go over the current usage, which is way way over the 500 Mbytes but I have reduced considerably since they drew it to my attention, they won't charge us. Loyalty over 20 years or so works both ways!

It is but the basic hosting package is among the lowest around, and additional space is only £5 a year per extra GByte. By allowing us to work within our total of a few @mydomain addresses they are giving us a few GBytes free. Possibly the result of being with them for 20 years or so, and they are aware that it is a community site providing a village web site and a village monthly publications. And a bit of two-way loyalty as I said before.

The author of this post has no financial or other interest in the ISP company. :p :p

You can still use IMAP -- Even on Office LTSC 2024 you can create a .pst file, open it and then just from your computer move the mail from the inbox / sent mail etc to the outlook.pst file you created -- create folders and just move from the imap folders to your outlook.pst file.

(From WITHIN outlook simply right mouse click on the appropriate mailbox folde e.g inbox etc).

Cheers
