I am sure we will all have done this - started an email on our desktop Outlook app and for whatever reason, saved it as a draft pending completion. later you go back and add or edit and then try and send. Outlook says sorry, can't send it. It's been changed. Doesn't always happen so must be a particular sequence of events that triggers it. Which I have yet to figure out.

There must some useful reason for this, not that I can see what it is, but how can I avoid it? The nature of my work is such that it is not always easy or possible to complete the email at a sitting and a subsequent edit before sending is necessary.

How can I save a draft and then go back to edit it without encountering this unhelpful message.

Ian,

If you mean MSOffice Outlook then I suggest you search and, if necessary, re-post in TenForums' MSOffice section.

In the meantime, when you're ready to send it you could create a new email then copy everything across from your draft into the new one & send that when it's completed.

All the best,
Denis

Thanks Dennis. That is what I do, but it does seem to be an unnecessary step. And if you forget and press send the message pops up and the only options result in the edits not being saved and no way of retrieving them. It is a weird and annoying "feature"!
I'll follow up on your suggestion.

I'm not convinced it's an error - just something I don't like! Having said that I had a look at the Repair but found the only Outlook I had available was the new version which I have checked out but would rather stick with he evil l I've got.

Sorry, I have no idea what you are talking about.
- You said you had Office 365 and hence Outlook 365.
- That is the subject of the link I gave you.

Sorry to confuse things. There seems to be a few Outlook versions! Outlook 365 is what came with the Office 365 package I bought originally. Outlook (New) is one that MS seems to be pushing. To confuse things further MS now seems to refer to the lot as Microsoft 365.
And if I am still confusing you it's because I'm not sleeping very well these days and I am confused! :confused:o_O:sleep:

Since MSOffice Outlook 365 is what you have, that's what we can discuss.
MS might be pushing Outlook for Windows but, since MSOffice Outlook 365 is what you have, that's what we can discuss.
Repair an Office application - MSSupport is for MSOffice including MS365, MSOffice 365.
Repair an Office application - MSSupport is what you ought to try.

Almost.
The confusion they are causing is by using the name Outlook for so many things & by renaming MSOffice.
- They refer to MSOffice365 as MS365.
- They do not refer to Outlook for Windows as MS 365. Outlook for Windows is a component of Windows.

All the best,
Denis

According to my Microsoft account I have Microsoft Family, which includes

Not sure what that tells me about what version of Outlook I have!

I'll have a look at the new links you sent me - thanks Dennis.

I'd have to say @Try3 is right. According to the icon you show, you have MSOffice Outlook 365

This one is from the above link.

Will your icon strip of all your MS Office icons allow you to right click on them to see more info about them?

Yes that is in the thread title but some of the posts sounded unsure so I posted what I did.

Thanks for the additional links
You're welcome.

Have you tried right clicking on those icons? I doubt it would open but the way menu's are added one never knows unless it's tried.
If they do open it might tell you what it is in properties.

Isn't that what I more or less said in my thread title? :-)
Certainly what I read, so would seem obvious that you were pretty clear.
Outlook from the Office 365 suite.

And yes, Microsoft mail clients are known by various confusing names
Mail & Calendar
Outlook
New Outlook
Classic Outlook (Office Suite versions)
All by the way are separate versions of “Outlook” obviously less the odd one out called Mail & Calendar

I get these all the time.
Happens when you have a separate new email window open and outlook open at the same time. Just delete the email it shows in your inbox. I think it's a virtual email that gets created by default...
