Browsers and Mail Add or Remove "Ask Copilot" on Menu in Microsoft Edge

  • Staff

This tutorial will show you how to add or Remove "Ask Copilot" on the mini menu and context menu in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The mini menu in Microsoft Edge is triggered on text selection and has basic actions like Ask Copilot, Copy, Search, and smart actions like definitions. You can click/tap on the More actions (3 dots) button in the mini menu to see the full menu.

When you highlight text or right click on highlighted text in Microsoft Edge, you can use Ask Copilot to open the highlighted text in the Microsoft Copilot sidebar in Microsoft Edge to search, rewrite, etc... the highlighted text with Copilot.

Removing Ask Copilot from the mini menu and context menu in Microsoft Edge will also remove the Copilot toolbar icon.

EXAMPLE: "Ask Copilot" about highlighted text in Microsoft Edge

Here's How:

1 Open Microsoft Edge.

2 Click/tap on the Setting and more (Alt+F) 3 dots button, and click/tap on Settings. (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Sidebar in the left pane, and click/tap on Copilot under "App specific settings" under "App and notification settings". (see screenshot below)

If you do not see a left pane, then either click/tap on the 3 bars menu button towards the top left OR widen the horizontal borders of the Microsoft Edge window until you do.

4 Turn on (default - add) or off (remove) Show Copilot for what you want. (see screenshots below)

Turning off Show Copilot toolbar icon will also remove Ask Copilot from the mini menu and context menu when you highlight text.

5 Click/tap on Restart to apply. (see screenshot below)

6 You can now close the Settings tab if you like.

That's it,
Shawn Brink
