Downloading emails Outlook 2021

After my emails stopped coming in I used Stellar Repair for Outlook and repaired the .pst file.

Now I can download emails in a roundabout way. If I open Outlook and click send/receive it appears to check but no emails come in. If I click on my email address at the top of the folders column then inbox then it downloads emails. See before and after images in merged pic attached.

How can I get this to work automatically as it should?

As long as it's an imap or exchange account, it would seem to me you would have to export your contacts to a file, completely delete that account along with its .pst, restart and create the account again. Your emails are still on the server so they would download again automatically. If your address book doesn't come back on its own, import the one you backed up.

Have you checked the send and receive settings/profiles?
I’m not at my desktop to guide you but I am sure you know where they are.

If you’re trying to repair the pst then I assume you’re using Pop3 accounts and not IMAP?
Always backup the PST file before doing anything.
I don’t personally believe the PST file would have anything to do with send/receive issues. They don’t store email settings, just your emails and contacts etc.

I am using IMAP. I just want to get it downloading emails automatically instead of having to click on my email then inbox in LH column./

So you’re using The PST for saving your contacts etc?.

Right Click on Inbox and Add to Favorites.
You will no longer have to click on 'Send & Receive'.
Keep in mind that there is a delay between IMAP and POP3 (.pst) as IMAP has to check which device(s) to send to.
That is minimal though.
Also the use of a static .pst file is redundant if you are using IMAP.

I just checked. My secondary email account is gmail. In that account I do not see the emails until I select it's inbox. I think it may have something to do with gmail's OA2 authentication.

I have never found a way to have multiple email accounts show new mail in a single window, it would be great. The methods I have tried have never been successful (creating an inbox for all new mail)
However all mail should be checked together either manually or automatically if the emails are included/selected in the “send/receive group settings” as you would know, a time interval between checking for mail can also be selected in there.

All very true.
But I still use a .pst file, along with m IMAP accounts, for my contacts and I drag mail that is imperative to be kept, into created folders in the .pst file. I think of it as a 2nd safety backup for important mail. It’s loaded every time I reinstall Outlook, without an email attached to it. In fact I have a couple loaded.

Pop allows that but it is regarded as insecure.
[It's what I still use though]

Couldn't you use Rules to move emails addressed to the different Inboxes into a common Outlook folder?
This is the opposite of what I do. I automatically move, for example,
so I'm distributing them rather than consolidating them.
I can't think of any reason why you could not do the opposite [but I don't use IMAP or EAC].

I also announce them so I know what's arrived if I'm not sat at my desk, zipped example attached.

- emails to a minor [relic] email address that come from some specific people go into my first-checked InBox whilst all others to that email address go into a check-when-I-can-be-bothered folder,​

- emails from Amazon & Amazon-partners with Amazon in their email address [such as DPD] go into an Amazon folder,​

- blah, blah, blah,​

- emails that fit none of my 30-odd rules go into a Routine folder.​

so I'm distributing them rather than consolidating them.

You might be right, Denis. I could possibly create a dummy INBOX and have a rule set somewhere for all mail to be directed there. It’s possibly a very simple solution, so simple that I had never thought about or come across when searching. It seems logical. I shall put it on my list to do/Try

As you can see here, I have 35 Domain Names. It’s complicated with some of those domain names having over 1 email account.
My solution is to have all emails set in their respective Control Panels to redirect all main to a single email address, the same email address is used on all domains in all Control Panels.
But it isn’t how I like to do it.

Really simple

Never understand why people seem to have such a problem with backing up email stuff.

Just create a .reg backup : I/e Export the following key.

• Outlook 365 / 2016 2019:
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles
• Outlook 2013: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Profiles
• Outlook 2010 or earlier versions: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

To restore : just run the .reg file

You'll need to remember the account(s) password(s) though when restoring.

After re-installing office / moving to new computer etc open outlookyou'll get a prompt open profile. Just close after 5 secs and open outlook again - then you'll be prompted for the passwords for all emails linked to that profile.

Works also for Office 2021.

For some builds you might need the .pst file too -- but later versions of office don't use a .pst file (by default) - but you can always create one if you want for example to save imap emails which are normally stored on the email server.

If you are a bit daunted by this try it in a VM first -- you don't have to activate latest versions of office for 2 or 3 days so you can see if the process works. (Office 2010 gives BTW 30 days before it needs activation). Import the .reg file from your current system and optionally the.pst file.

Note exporting the .reg file leaves your emails intact on the host computer.

I haven't managed to get Outlook 2021 back to how I like it since a windows reinstall 3 months ago. In my left column I have 3 entries - I don't know the correct term each with an inbox. One had my folders where emails coming in used to get sorted straight into folders. Another one is where my EMAILs do come in and there's yet another. I just want to get back to having one entry with all my folders and new emails coming in - some straight into the folders as per rules,.

I should add though, if I added all my email accounts to Outlook, I’d be scrolling forever to read/check them all. Redirecting, although not ideal, seems the easiest. Until I maybe I combine your save method with the solution Dennis (@Try3) mentioned re having mail directed to one inbox.

I am not certain, but it reads like you went from originally using POP3 email accounts with a .pst file, to now using IMAP.
If you were using IMAP when your Outlook was setup the way you liked it, perhaps Outlook isn’t set to, or hasn’t been told to download all folders.
Do you have a cPanel account for your domain or a backend at your host that you can log in to? Are you able to log in and check the webmail? If so can you see all the old folders you’re referring to?

It was POP3 prior to a complete windows reinstall. After that I couldn't get office working so Microsoft logged in and set it up on Imap. They said it wouldn't work on POP3 but it had for 20+ years.
I've not heard of cPanel.
I can log into webmail but it has never shown the folders structure I have in Outlook 2021.

In my opinion, all the folders you are missing are in the old .PST file. Did you back it up by any chance?

That’s rubbish. Maybe Outlook email addresses won’t, but your personal domain email certainly will. I don’t understand why they would tell you that. I still use POP3 with Outlook and still have a .PST file that I store my emails in.
