OS
Windows 11 Home ver 23H2
I have downloaded New Outlook without installing Microsoft 365) (I use LibreOffice). I can see all my Gmail messages in New Outlook but it seems to lack other features. For instance I do not see a ribbon (of icons) and there is no File menu. The Help menu directs you to 365.
If my Gmail address is Joe.Bloggs@gmail.com, am I right in assuming that my New Outlook address will be Joe.Bloggs@outlook.com.
Is New Outlook really a stand alone product or is it merely a part of 365?

It is a replacement for the Mail App. It is a separate product.
If you are looking for the same features as the regular Outlook, you need to get MS office.

Did you create an Outlook email account? If not then your Gmail account can not just magically change to outlook.com

New Outlook
Just uninstall, it's in Beta and compatibility and features are not even up to the Mail App never mind the full desktop Outlook application.
It is a stand alone product.

"If my Gmail address is XXXXX, am I right in assuming that my New Outlook address will be XXXXX"

No, what you may have just done is create a new Outlook Mail Account.
It may have the same form as your Gmail Account, it maybe an Outlook account you already have.

The wording is terribly confusing, and it seems to remember details of even incompatible Email accounts and just generate error messages and troubleshooting boxes.
