Hold on, so the email *itself* appears immediately after clicking the notification that pops up in the right lower corner? In my case and others the Outlook app opens instantly (without the concerning email) but the email itself appears in a window several seconds later.

Which Windows build do you have?

1. Clicking a mail alert popping up in the right lower corner opens the Outlook app and only shows the Inbox, not the mail that you clicked on. And after around 8 seconds later, a separate Outlook mail window pops up showing the actual email.

2. The mail alert pop up does not contain actions like Delete, Archive or Mark as read. You'd have to open the Outlook app and then look for the mail (see 1.) to do those actions.

3. Gmail does not give mail alerts when the Outlook app is closed.

The old Mail app doesn't have these issues at all.

MS may replace an app but how can such basic issues/lacking features be missed when they're trying to push this to the public?

Maybe it's me being "young", but I don't understand why you would use an email program vs just having the email in the browser that for me never has any issues whatsoever.

Even at work I just use the webmail

One reason to use a email program is that you can have multiple email accounts in it. For instance, I have four. I also feel I have more control over things in the email program. I'm not sure there's a Zoom plugin for the web version of Outlook, either. There is for the program Outlook, and I frequently use it. It's simpler than using the Zoom app to schedule meetings.

Or, I could just be old! 🤣

I can do that with tabs in the browser tho ha. I pin them so they are tiny permanent icons/tabs in the top left. idk I just never saw the point of a dedicated email program. And my work uses teams, which I hate, so anything to avoid using that program and its addons I will treasure forever.

Oh, I'm not sure if the browser mail app will do this, but Outlook will provide a calendar reminder popup, which is something we old codgers need! 😂

yeah I have browser notifications on for those sites. Calendar email etc.

Okay, then the only thing I can think of is from a system resource standpoint. I use Edge, and it's a memory hog. With 9 tabs, it's using about 1,317MB of memory while Outlook is a stable 250MB. (I'm grasping at air, aren't I? 😬)

Edge is based on chrome. And yes they do use a bit more memory, but it's because each tab is sandboxed.

I am going to have the browser opened regardless, and if I turn on the memory saver feature, it will sleep unused tabs and wont consume memory if not needed.

I also have 32GB of ram on both my work and home so I never worry about ram usage. Even with my tablet pc with 12GB ram it runs just fine.

But that is a good point. A dedicated client would use less ram. So if your system has less than 12GB ram for example, like 8GB or so it could be worth it. But it also depends what you use your pc for and all that jazz.

Does the NEW Outlook make you type a filename?
I’ve always hated that. An image already has a filename, I can never work out why when clicking “Save Image” it doesn’t just do so without me having to name it.
