Massive Battery Drain Overnight With Windows Shut Down

The driver is correct, the date 21/06/2006 is just set by MS for their purposes. The Driver (Windows) version below is more relevant.

I see from previous posts it is not a standard install of Windows 11, that would account for probably missing HP system stuff and consequently the Battery report with missing and wrong details.

I've had this issue a few times
Steamship,
What is Helmut referring to?

Have you installed the drivers recommended by the OEM?
Are there any warning flags in Device mgr?

I honestly don't know what he's referring to. It seems to be related to the PowerCfg results I got, in post #8, as he made a comment in post #9, but didn't elaborate on it.

As to it being a 'non standard install', I purchased the laptop new from HP. Since then, I've run it with Windows Update always on, as well as having the HP Support Assistant as well, which prompts with the occasional driver update. The only 'change' I made from the original purchase is that I upgraded it to Windows 11 Pro after about a year.

I suppose it's possible he had never seen the PowerCfg -a results lines, "This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported." before? They are fairly commonplace.

If you've no driver issues flagged up in Device mgr then I cannot see what's causing any problem.

Sorry, missed that question completely. Not a single issue at all with anything in Device Manager.

I've yet to try the shutdown.exe command you suggested, so will give that a go for the next few weeks, and see if makes any difference to the battery loss when powered down, as I currently lose about 4-5% overnight, based on the recent battery report.

Just a quick update on this. Unfortunately, other things have prevented me from experimenting with the shutdown.exe command over the last few weeks, but I did experience the same drastic power loss as originally posted. In fact, twice this week. The first on the morning of the 17th, where it dropped from 16% overnight to 1%, as shown here:

That sort of confirms what I had been experiencing previously. This morning however was much worse. The laptop was shut down with 37% battery charge, and when powered on, I got the message about charging the battery. Despite shutting down the same way as always, it somehow lost 36% of charge. The only other item I had thought that 'might' have an impact was if there were Windows updates involved. Specifically, when you go to shut down and it gives the various options. When this happens, I always choose to install the updates and restart, and then shut it down again, even those times I'm tired and just want to go to bed. From memory, I've only had one instance of that since my original post, and that was in the middle of the afternoon, so it definitely got done there and then.

This is the result from this mornings startup:

Windows shutdown shortcut created and placed in prominent space on the desktop, so will try and use that every time from now on.
